Colombia is a beautiful country located on the top of South America, connecting the rest of the Latin Americas. It has a rich history along with a dark one. With its constantly changing climates and one of kind culture mixed in with influences from European countries and its war on drugs its seen today as perplexed growing country.
Colombia is made up by five main regions. The Andes Mountains, the Pacific Ocean Coastal region, the Caribbean Sea Coastal region, the Llanos plains and the Amazon Rainforest. Colombia is also the only Latin American country that borders the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Colombia has five different climate zones, tropical rainforest, tropical savanna, steppe, tropical desert and tropical mountain climates. Most of Colombia is made up of an agrarian society. Different climate zones facilitate cultivation of a large range of products such as coffee, bananas, flowers, cotton, cacao, sugar and rice. Apart from agriculture, however, Colombia has many natural resources; its mineral resources are extensive. It is ranked as the world’s major source of emeralds. Other significant resources include, petroleum, iron ore, salt, platinum, uranium and natural gases. Gold and silver are found dispersed through the central highlands.
A very weak infrastructure has left the rural populations vulnerable. With paramilitary groups causing havoc across the country. Guerilla groups and semi-autonomous local governments - and severely raised prices of internal transport where moving goods to and from inland cities can be more expensive than shipping them halfway around the world. With the war on drugs still a big issue on the front, its paramilitary groups still trying to get a foot in its government, and its enormous gap between social classes, Colombia still has a long way to go before it becomes a stable country. Although with its struggle within its people still main their rich heritage and rich culture, and hope that one they can be known as a world power.
Colombia is famous for many types of cuisine. In America, different states/areas are known for different types of food. For example, the coastline has great seafood and the south has awesome comfort food. Colombia is divided into 32 departments, or country subdivisions. Each area has unique dishes that reflect their department.

This neighborhood is located in the center of the city. Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and where everyone acts very similar and has the same customs and culture. Bogotá has the perfect climate because e it is located near the equator and it is located in the perfect altitude: 2,600 meters above sea level. It is also located in the savanna of Bogotá, where the land is fertile and it has a lot of beautiful vegetation around it. There is great food, beautiful women and spectacular sites to go to. It is more of a place to work and live in, although it has beautiful turistic sites.
The capital of Columbia is Bogota. There is a very big population it is one of the biggest cities in Columbia. But there are many others cities like Medellin, it is north west of Bogota it is the second largest city in Columbia. Another main city is Antioquia, it is also north west of Bogota and part of a narrow section is bordering Panama. The third main city is Barranquilla, which is in the north east part of Columbia. It is a major city. And it is highly populated and a lot of business is done there.
Religion in Latin America has always been tied closely to Catholicism because of the influence of Europeans who came to settle South America, bringing along their Catholic foundation. With the early formations of governments in Latin America, church and state were closely linked. The church had significant influence over what happened in the political realm of the countries’ relations. The case was no different for Colombia. The Catholic church has played a significant role in the history of Colombia, assuming an esteemed status in the country and exercising control over different areas of the government and public affairs, but as time passed its role in power has taken a slight downturn.
Imagine a river that is so clean, so beautiful, but contains no fish. Colombia is home to this river called Canos Cristales or “the river of five colors” if you are a local. This is just one of the beautiful sights that you can visit. Colombia is the only country in all of South America that borders both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The Sierra de Santa Marta is another amazing site you can only find in Colombia. It is the tallest seaside mountain in the entire world! Many people only see Colombia as the place with mountains of cocaine and coffee when really it is so much more. Colombia has a unique and diverse culture due to their history and traditions. More than half of the population consists of mestizos. They have been influenced by Africans, Europeans, and Native Indians. Due to these influences Colombia has a very rich heritage and culture. These influences and traditions that they have acquired over the years has been incorporated in many ways throughout Colombia. Some examples includes their many dances, moving music, delicious food, art, architecture, holidays and celebrations, etc.

Now for the physical geography of Costa Rica, where is it located; well Costa Rica is located in Central America, on one side it has the Caribbean Sea and on the other side it has the North Pacific Ocean. To the north there is Nicaragua, and to the South there is Panama. Now knowing where it is located it makes more since about the rainy climates and the coastal lines. Coast Rica has two climates; tropical and subtropical which breaks down into dry and rainy seasons, the dry seasons starts in December and ends in April, the rainy season starts in May and ends in November. As far as terrain goes Costa Rica has coastal plains and also has mountains which have many volcanos in them.
It has played a principal role in socio-cultural, economic and political development. The greatest effect on the development was evident between the 1960s and 1970s; however, that is not the case presently because the civil wars and drug trade have taken the center stage in Colombia. Coffee farming that was regarded as the primary source of legal foreign exchange has been overtaken by oil because of the small-scale farmers have been displaced by the civil war. The major cause of the civil war is the control of the drug trade. Although coffee has played a crucial role in the development of the other sectors of the economy and the infrastructure, presently, coffee production has declined drastically. While coffee was an essential catalyst for the improvement of the majority rural livelihood, currently, the gap between the rich and the poor has expanded. In future, the stakeholders are optimistic that the National Coffee Fund will be able to redeem the image of the coffee

During the late 1920’s for instance, with petroleum, bananas, and coffee being their main exports, their economy drastically fell due to the Great Depression occurring worldwide. There were three aspects in Colombian life in which the Medellin Cartel had a major impact on. The first was the economy. The Medellin Cartel were a drug organization involved in the production and exportation of cocaine. As it turned out, cocaine had become an unbelievably lucrative business for anyone involved. One day, Colombia’s most exported item was coffee and one month later, cocaine replaces it and becomes the most exported item by a longshot, making up to 30% of all the exported items in the country. In the 1980s, thanks to the Medellin Cartel the cocaine trade accounted for 6% of the country’s GDP. Essentially what this meant was that cocaine contributed 6% of the country’s wealth.
