Because of many conflicting ideas I experienced between ages 12-18, which is the time frame for the identity versus role confusion stage of Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory of development which is describe in our textbook (Boyd & Bee, 2006), I have experienced delays in life planning. Throughout my adolescence I was often in a non supportive environment with many people dictating my actions, but no role model to look up to. This left me confused and caused me to have many different jobs that I did for money, not for career experience My future goals have stemmed from becoming recently self employed, and realizing my love for accounting, and having time to make my own decisions and realizing my true interests and talents. Ever since I was a little kid of about 6 years old, I was left to myself. My parents worked very hard during the week and partied and often went to bars every night and weekend. They spent a lot of time with friends. I found it hard to trust others due to my parents not being supportive of me so young. I really had no primary person to rely on. According to the trust versus mistrust stage of Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory of development in our textbook, a caregiver must be consistently loving and must respond to the child predictably and loving, otherwise the child may develop mistrust (Boyd & Bee, 2006). This has been my experience in my life. I had very few friends in elementary, which I learned was a time to make lifelong friends. The only social life I had was at the Possum Road Church of God, which I went to from 9 to 18 years old. However, because of the mistrust in elementary school the only friends or support system I had was in church. Making plans when it comes to my future has not been an easy task, because of what I have experienced in my life. However, I feel that the time I’ve spent being self-employed and away from my parents has really helped me. I feel like now that I know what areas I want to be in career wise, I can now plan to have a successful future. I believe that I have overcame the experiences I faced with identity, and will going to Ashford will be able to continue to face them. This will give me the chance to lead a successful life. Erik Erikson developed eight psychosocial stages that occur through life. These stages help parents of younger children understand what the child is thinking and why they are acting the way that they do. For a person to become a well-rounded adult they need to succeed in each level. This essay will discuss the first six stages into young adulthood.
Adults are self-motivated. They learn best by building on what they already know and when they are actively engaged (Lindeman, 2010). The approach of adult education revolves around non-vocational ideals and is based on experience rather than subjects (Lindeman, 2010). It helps adults gain knowledge about their powers, capacities, and limitations (Funnell et al, 2012).

Human development describes the life stages of human beings that progress from birth to death. This essay will use theorists Erik Erikson and Daniel Levinson to compare early adulthood to middle adulthood focusing on their physical, cognitive, and social development. The essay will also define stress and discuss the best ways to cope with stress.
Erik Erikson composed a theory of psychological development that was composed of eight stages. Erikson’s theory focuses on how personalities evolve throughout life as a result of the interaction between biologically based maturation and the demands of society. According to Erikson, “Each stage of human development presents its characteristic crises. Coping well with each crisis makes an individual better prepared to cope with the next.” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2013, p. 314) According to Erikson’s eight stages of development, I have only been through six of the eight stages.

Erik Erikson was a developmental psychologist known for his theory on psychosocial development. Unlike other theorists of his time Erikson’s theory focused on human development across the lifespan from birth to late adulthood. Erickson believed that development change occurs through out our lives in eight distinctive stages that emerge in a fixed pattern and are similar for all people. Erickson argued that each stage presents a crisis or conflict which results in either a positive or negative outcome (Feldman). In this essay I will identify incidents in my own life that demonstrate each stage of development according to Erickson that I have lived through. I will also interview my Aunt Tami who will share her experiences for the remainder stages of Erickson’s development that I have not gone through thus far.
