Before embarking in leadership development activities I have to appreciate that I possess that as my personal leadership abilities and attitudes. Whereas not all people are born with the ability to lead, my personal characteristics can greatly be hindering my leadership effectiveness. Such a scenario can however be alleviated through specialized training (Carter, Ulrich & Goldsmith, 2005). Even where there seems to be difficulties I need to see possibilities if I wish to manage those challenges and be a leader in the area.
As an individual I aspire to become a Chief Executive Officer or an Executive Chairman for a multi-national corporation. I aspire to lead a marketing firm that has multi production capacity and lead it to be a global giant in terms of products as well as market penetration. In particular, having a great interest in the food industry, I aspire to build my success around the Del Monte Group of companies though I will keep my mind open to differing opinions, later developments and also interests as I am dynamic as man is expected to be. This opinion is mostly borne out of their international mobility policies they have for which I have come to greatly admire and see as key to my professional development (Mamende, 2008).
For me to achieve this, I need to have excelled as a manager more so in marketing. I also need to make good use of my analytical skills as well as ensure I am brave enough to penetrate new markets which are deemed to be risky investment. History has shown that market dominance can only be attained through aggressive marketing even in seemingly difficult markets. As a CEO or Executive Chairman, I also need to be able to formulate policies for the organization to steer it to more profitability. I ne...

...tained by ensuring that the noted attributes are well developed. I also need to look into my negative attributes and learn how I ought to manage them. Safe for this I ought to ensure that the financial attributes to such achievements are well taken care for thus have taken an estimated financial projection of the same and had an insurance cover taken to the same effect so as to cover any eventualities.
I believe I will achieve my dreams to totality though I have to work towards education excellence, emotional integrity, ensuring that I have great communication skills and completing all the desired professional certifications.

In a firm, management and leadership are important and needed. Leadership and management are similar. Actually, leadership and management are totally different. The leadership would influence the firm. The leader would have difference leadership styles to lead the subordinate.
The way a leader is defined and remembered is not only through his actions and accolades, his followers and the leaders he developed also go into a leader’s legacy. Much like a legendary football coach, whose coaching tree goes on to do great things, I desire to join an organization that not only assist in my development as a leader, but also facilitate in the development of others as well. How could I contribute to the development of leaders? My largest contribution will come from my experience of being the United States military, where I was not only trained how to become an efficient leader, I was also taught on how to facilitate the growth and development of others leaders as well. I am able to accurately assess and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of an individual and assist in the development of a plan of action to address these areas. One of my personal beliefs is that vast knowledge is useless unless it is passed down to someone. With that being said I take every opportunity possible to share any knowledge that has helped me along the way.

This opens the floodgates to leadership development, as opposed to simple psychometric assessment that sorts those with leadership potential from those who will never have the chance.” This theory does not seek inborn traits or capabilities; rather they look at what leaders actually do.(Changing minds). Behavioural theory suggests that leadership requires a strong personality with a well-developed positive ego; self-confidence is essential.(Boundless,

Out past in leadership has been so different then our present. Our past with some of the most noteworthy issues and trends in the field of leadership development in the past 20 years under these two general headings 1) The proliferation of leadership development methods; 2) The importance of a leader’s emotional resonance with and impact on others (Broome/Hughes). These 2 are the most important things for leaders, especially like it’s been with us for 20 years now. In first heading, Proliferation of Leadership Development Methods gives us Classroom- type leadership, Development relationships, Action learning, and challenging job assignments. Each one explains to us what we have used in our past and the skills we have used.
Leadership at times can be a complex topic to delve into and may appear to be a simple and graspable concept for a certain few. Leadership skills are not simply acquired through position, seniority, pay scale, or the amount of titles an individual holds but is a characteristic acquired or is an innate trait for the fortunate few who possess it. Leadership can be misconstrued with management; a manager “manages” the daily operations of a company’s work while a leader envisions, influences, and empowers the individuals around them.

The leadership is a result of a combination of traits, with special emphasis on the personal qualities of the leader, which he should possess certain personality traits that would be special facilitators in leadership performance. This theory shows that leaders are born as such, there is no likelihood of 'making' them later with personal development techniques.
When considering the term management, there has always been a common miss conception that this automatically makes an individual a leader. Leadership is only a single element of the management role. Many times managers are more comfortable utilizing a particular leadership style. While this may work well the majority of the time, certain employees or situations may require a different approach. Good leadership requires that the individual recognize the need for change to motivate their employees to accomplish the task at hand or to reach common goals. Understanding the importance of leadership is essential. However, the key element to focus on is what steps can be taken to improve one’s leadership capabilities. For many individuals this may be a difficult question to answer and may only be possible through self-assessment and reflection.
Leaders can have a powerful impact on the futures of many, and the way in which one approaches leadership is paramount to the type of impact one will have. Continual growth in the areas of knowledge I have and seek to acquire, as well as recognizing my leadership style and utilizing my personal strengths to the fullest, is vital to the successful implementation of my personal philosophy of leadership.
Leaders will no matter what have an influence on our world. They have missions, dreams and ambition, and with these things they are bound to go far. For leaders, what makes these dreams come true is having strong qualities such as leadership practices, values and strengths. If developed and learned how to use correctly, these are what take leaders to the next level and accomplish great things. In the following paper I will talk about leadership in our ever-changing world, explore my leadership practices, values and strengths as well as elaborate on the goals I have made to challenge myself as a leader.
