Operational Plan Summary and Analysis No business is immune from globalization. Although MÀJEN is not a multinational organization, it has a diverse multicultural customer base (Powers, & Jones, 2001). The recent changes in our national and global economy have affected the customer base through decreased reimbursement resulting in rationing of resources. Additionally, the slower economy has resulted in less employee turnover and thus a decrease need for new hire training and certification. Future impact of the global economy on ALFs and SLAs are both positive and negative. This industry has a range of organizational size from small businesses, those who own a home and rent rooms, to large national corporations. Payment for services is predominately-private pay with less than 10% subsidized through state, federal, or insurance payers (www.alfa.org). As the downturn in the global economy negatively affects stock options and retirement funds, individuals will not be able to pay for services. Providers will then need to cut expenses and may minimize training. Providers will also be continually motivated to find less expensive options, which may motivate them to “in source” their training. This equates to decreased volume and revenue for MÀJEN. Conversely, with the elderly population growing and an overall concern of rising medical costs increases, ALF and SLAs are a progressively more attractive option. This community-based care is 50% less expensive than skill nursing care (www.alfa.org). Through increasing population growth and motivation of governments to decrease medical spending, the industry may experience a boom. This would equate to an increased demand for training services and increased revenue for MÀJEN. Properly developed and executed contracts will ensure evaluation of the contract services. The UNR small business mentors and the CPA will support the contract process. Additionally, the owners are members of web-based learning organizations to gain access to experts and knowledge of this field. The owners have also joined trade organizations and subscribed to trade publications as a means to assist in building the subcontractor relationships. The owners have also gained information from the UNR small business mentorship program on local resources to further knowledge of online education choices.

For many years, the nursing shortage has been a relevant topic in today’s society. The nursing shortage is defined as a lack of trained nurses to provide care for ill individuals. Nursing schools inability to grow programs quickly enough to meet demands (Nursing Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2014). The shortage is not only an issue in the United States but all over the world. This problem affects a wide range of people from current registered nurses, patients, and other members of the healthcare team. According to the Nursing Association of Colleges of Nursing (Rosseter, 2014), the nursing shortage is due to the expansion of healthcare and nurses who are baby boomers beginning to retire. The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment reports,
The nursing shortage is a growing issue in the United States. The problem began in the 1930s, as there was increased hospital use. Nursing shortage makes some of the hospitals to close the beds or hire temporary nurses, which is expensive with the aim of filling the gap and providing less optimal care to the patients (Chan et al., 2013). The issue is not that individuals are not going into nursing but also the fact that the existing nurses are not going into education. Shortsightedness and retention concerning retention and recruitment contributed to the beginning of a shortage of nurses in the late 1990s, and the shortfall has lasted for long. Additionally, the lifespan of human beings has increased due to the advancing technology, and it

Health care reform has been a major issue over the past decade. The Nursing industry has in particular experienced a period of unpredictable change. On Dec 24, 2009, a landmark measure was passed in the senate by a vote of 60 to 39. This decision to pass the health care reform will change America forever. Nurses will constitute the largest single group of health care professionals. They will have a huge impact on quality and effectiveness in health care. The nursing industry will help hold this new program together by acting as the glue (The nursing industry will be the glue holding the new health care in tact.) It is estimated that by 2015 the number of nurses will need to increase to over 4 million. Nurses are the backbone of the health care industry thus creating better polices for this profession will help ease the workload and high demand. A nurse’s main concern is always to insure quality care and the safety of their patients. Under the new health care reform several new measures have been set into place to ease the transition and improve the quality of care for all patients. One program is designed to fund scholarships and loan programs to offset the high costs of education. Nursing shortages and the high turnover has become a serious epidemic. Health care reform is supposed going to solve many of these problems.
Nurses are considered as the largest population of professionals in the health care systems. The nursing population currently confronts sever shortages especially of younger and RNs nurses that could threaten the quality of care and patients’ safety, nurses’ job satisfaction, and organizational productivity. According to Flinkman and others’ fact that “Most countries within the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have reported a nursing shortage, which is predicted to get worse because the current nursing population is aging”. Even nursing education institutions could not fill healthcare organizations demands of graduated nurses because they also suffer from shortages of nursing faculty (Erlen, 2004).
