The author clearly distinguishes K-pop from “traditional values of Korea” (Lie 360). This means that the first conceptions that come into people’s mind when thinking of traditional Korean culture such as Confucianism are not very much reflected in K-pop. However, he states that K-pop displays “cultural transformation of South Korea” and therefore holds characteristics of contemporary globalized Korean society rather than traditional features (361). In this sense, K-pop reflects the history of South Korea and also the role of global consumers throughout its

Korea has undergone many conflicts that brought political and social upheavals which greatly affected their quest towards modernization and unification. During the mid-7th centuries when Korea is just starting to shape its own national identity, there is already a series of events that caused several changes in the livelihood of the early settlers of the Korean peninsula. These events including the wars between the three kingdoms Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla, the spread of the Chinese influence (Sinicization), and the formation of alliances between the East Asian nations such as the Tang dynasty of China allied with Silla, and the Yamato kingdom of Japan allied with Baekje changed the people’s perception of Korea as a nation because of the influence of different emerging cultures. Religion is also one of the main contributors that made Korea a subject for change because it allowed the acceptance or assimilation of different cultures from the East and the West. These changes continued up to modern times when Korea is struggling to achieve modernization and reunification brought by the plight of war and political conflicts. The vast history of Korea is the key in understanding their transitions throughout the ages.

South Korea, once a broken country filled with broken families, has transformed itself into a fine example of perseverance in a tough situation. South Korea and its neighbor to the north have developed past where they were before the Korean War, but in different ways. The two countries, while certainly dependent on each other, are vastly different. Their conflicting styles of government and their differing cultures speak for themselves in this case. South Korea has, over the years, changed dramatically from the crippled country of the Korean War into a blossoming beacon of Asian cultural and economic changes. The combination of its recent economic importance, its heavy cultural influence, and its constant danger of participating in a war makes South Korea one of the most influential countries in the world.
The importance and roles that culture has played throughout history has evolved since the beginning of time and has changed over the centuries, greatly influencing nations, specifically North Korea. North Korean society is regarded as mysterious, simply due to their cultural and idealistic values differing significantly from other countries. By exploring
This country is of particular interest as it is one of the four Asian Tiger economies, whose rapid industrialisation and growth between the early 1960’s and 1990’s caused it to emerge as one of the most dynamic and fast-changing countries in Asia and the world. Much like Japan, its economic development was marked by heavy investments in foreign technology and imitation through reverse-engineering. By limiting FDI, South Korea maintained control over its industrial base and encouraged investments in R&D.
Korean pop music happens to be very popular in Korea. It is most popular among the youth of Korea. For the purpose of clarity for this one-thousand-word essay, the youth is defined roughly as ages 0 - 22. Now, there is a phenomenon that occurs with Korean pop music and older Koreans. This phenomenon is a distinct characteristic of Korean pop that separates it from the older Korean pop music of the seventies. This phenomenon is that the older Korean people do not understand the words that come out of the mouths of the singers of Korean pop music that pumps out of the music industry of today in the nation of Korea. This phenomenon parallels that of the pop music of the biggest country of North America—also known by many humans as the United States of America—where older people have trouble connecting with the popular trends in music. This might be illustrated by American people who tend to like country music. If it is not obvious, fans of country music like country music because, as the author of this text has heard, "you can understand [the words]". It is also the tendency that fans of pop music dislike country. These two seem to be mutually exclusive musical tastes. In fact, the older pop of Korea, in the opinion of the author of this text, sounds like country just a wee bit. Trends tend to have the effect that older people can’t understand the words that come out of the mouths of the setters of the trends.
