It has always been my dream to find a cure for one of the most deadly diseases to date and it is still a dream I wish to achieve. As I got older and entered college, this dream is slowly turning to a reality as I take on medicine. But why do I wish to become a doctor for a deadly disease that still has no cure today? Cancer has killed over a million people every day and with the many variations of this disease, there are not many specialists that can cater to all the patients who have been afflicted by this disease. Cancer specialists such as oncologists are very hard to find and should a patient finds one, the price can be out of their budget and may consider just living on with the disease. My dream of helping these people drives me to enter a new but unexplored world and by being an oncologist, I am one step closer in fulfilling it.
The discussion for this paper will be divided into three parts. The first part will discuss a little history about the field of oncology to give a little overview of how the field revolutionized how Cancer is treated. The second part will revolve around discussion details about the oncologist from how a person could become one, what they do, what they use and what they do to update themselves in the new discoveries and cure updates for the dreaded disease. The third part, the paper’s conclusion, will be highlighting some problems that are raised in the field and many others and also feature the future this field would have in the next couple of years. I will also state how this paper helped me in understanding the career path to take. To start of this paper, I shall give a brief history of cancer treatment and how it eventually lead to a field now known as oncology.

Although there is still no cure for this dreaded disease, the technological and scientific advancements are slowly approaching a breakthrough that can possibly rid the world of this complicated disease. Sure there are problems that must be considered and understood once entering this field but my drive to find a cure for these patients and help them is my undying will to pursue this field. Entering this field also would challenge me in undermining possible new strains and even come up with my own discovery for a cure for incurable strains of cancer. Cancer is a disease in which cells multiply out of control and gradually build a mass of tissue called a tumor. There has been a large amount of research dedicated to the treatment and cure of cancer. Several types of treatments have been developed. The following are just some of the major examples of cancer therapy: surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, biologic therapy, biorhythms, unconventional treatments, and hyperthermia. Isn’t it overwhelming to consider the fact that approximately one in eight deaths in the world are due to cancer? To make this more comprehensible, the number of deaths caused by cancer is greater than caused by AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. Along with the idea that this disease does not have a definite cure is a mind-staggering concept to grasp. If not caught in time, cancer means guaranteed death. Over the years, scientists have realized that the disease they thought they distinguished was very dissimilar to the diseases they currently study today. There are over 200 types of cancer in the world today. Scientists continue to study every day to be able to come closer to finding a cure finding for this awful disease.
In the future, I wish to obtain an occupation in the medical field.
