The article “The End of Men”, written by Hannah Rosin was published in The Atlantic, July/August 2010. The article is about how women are increasingly getting influence in society and how this will ultimately lead to a change in the balance between men and women, where women are now more dominant. There are more women that have high educations then there are men. And for the first time in U.S. history the majority of the workforce are women. When parents are given the opportunity to decide the sex of their child they more often choose a girl because the general perception is that girls have a better chance of doing well in the post-modern society than boys have. Girls are better able to concentrate and to communicate, and the physical energy that boys have is not helpful in today’s society. The traditional male jobs are disappearing and while there are more and more jobs for the highly educated woman. Men will now, for the first time in history have to adapt to the women’s world, where there are other things than raw physical power that count, and many men may end up being conqured by strong women: “ The New York Times columnist Gail Collins recently wrote that the cougar phenomenon is beginning to look like it’s not about desperate women at all but about “desperate young American men who are latching on to an older woman who’s a good earner.””

Scientists at the University of Newcastle have managed to create human sperm cells using a female embryonic stem cell. This means that women are now able to reproduce without the presence a man. So, the question is, are men even needed in todays society?
