Did you know that in 2006, the number of aboriginal people in Canada surpassed one million? This means that the aboriginals represented 3.8% of the total population in Canada. Even though this number is much smaller than the non-aboriginal population, they have an impact on Canada, in the north and south. Unfortunately, some of the aboriginal groups do not have a stable way of living and the Canadian government is very selective when helping them. Overall, I want to be able to help the First Nation people receive the funding they need to have a thriving economic workforce.

Firstly, the aboriginal people do not have enough jobs and educational buildings to support the large population of young people. Almost half the aboriginal people in Canada are under the age of 24 and so they are going to need more positions for people to work and go to school. In 2011, only 10% of aboriginal people had a university degree and around 20% had a collage degree. This poses a problem for First Nation People who aim for a mid-high paying job. If they do not have a degree it is harder for them to find a job that they like and that pays well. Some aboriginal students in university or collage cannot do their best or cannot attend because they are caring for their family. The government should find a sustainable way to give money to these students so that they can go to school in the hopes of getting a good job. With the younger children, it is not always possible for them to stay in school. If they don’t finish elementary school or high school, their education will be stunted and they wont be able to compete with today’s economy. The government should more heavily encourage schooling and build more schools that are on reserves so that aboriginals can...

... government has no right to try and change that. They have given opportunities to the natives that do not comply with their culture and the Canadian government needs to respect that. If the aboriginal groups choose to stay on the reserves, it should be fine to the government. What the government should be doing is providing them with fertile lands and better health care. They should provide resources that are beneficial to the aboriginals and are very similar to the non-aboriginal benefits.

In conclusion, I believe that both non-aboriginal and aboriginal people should be treated equally and fairly. The Canadian government should be working on providing quality schooling, jobs, healthcare, and appropriate funds. The older cohorts of the aboriginal population are much smaller that the younger ones, and it is changing the needs and demands of the aboriginal people.
