The Need for Bilingual Education

In the fifth fortnightly review, I will be discussing on the needs of bilingual or English as a second language (EAL) pupil. This refers to learners whose first language is not English and comes from a diverse cultural, linguistic background and with little or no educational background (Ofsted, 2012) The EAL pupils experience barrier to their learning due to English language not have been their first language or have limited English, or considered Bilingual pupils. In addition the school provides a specialist EAL supports for the pupils, through practical activities, to make sure that cognitive and language learning takes place. However, the teacher faces many challenges, such as, pupil progress may be slow in learning, or does not show uniformity due to the difference in teaching, backgrounds , level or skill of English language influence by their situation and culture, such as, Urdu, Punjabi, Somali Afghani, Romanian (Ofsted, 2012) In addition, there are numbers of strategies that the school under take to support EAL pupils some of them are, the teacher familiarize themselve...
