The Mystery of the JFK assassination The assassination of JFK affected the lives of many that were alive during his presidency and forever impacted history. His assassination is shrouded in mystery, and to this day no one knows exactly what happened. He was the youngest elected president, and the youngest president to die in office (The White House) JFK was a civil rights activist, because this was well known he had made enemies with many southerners in that time period. Despite these enemies JFK had made clear he wanted to campaign in Florida and Texas, as he knew that not winning those states could flip the tables on him. His wife would be with him, making her first display in public for more than is needed since the death of her baby in August ("John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum"). While the most accepted idea is that he was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald, there are a lot more ideas out there. Some people believe that the Mafia had ties to his assassination, mainly Jack Ruby, or if the CIA or FBI had been involved. Unfortunately, nothing remains except many conspiracy theories. The Kennedy family seemed to have nothing but bad luck afterwards, with most everyone dying. (JFK: 50 Year Anniversary) Kennedy refused to send in air-support during the Bay of Pigs and allowed a ban on hostile Cuban weapons (The White House) and in doing so he may have made friends, but he also made enemies with other people against Castro, corrupt CIA and FBI agents, and the Mafia. Faced with his new challenges and enemies, he also had to try and recover from a 59% approval rating. (Kallen, 12-13) This began his trip to Texas to try and regain some approval.
