My Take on the Dance Concert

I enjoyed the dance concert; from the thirteen dance performances was the After Part, Eternal Pointe Dreams, and Shifting Perceptions. I actually enjoyed all of the dance performances nbut the main ones that captured my attention were those three dance performances. Today when I went to the dance concert I arrived early to get great front row seats and get a pamflit to gather enough information as possible. I was still not exactly sure what to expect given the fact that the first dance performances wasnt really for me and did not capture my attention so much. Even though I enjoyed the first dance concert because I was able to participate in it. In this second dance concert I was not able to get the chance to participate in it like I did in the first dance concert but it was still such a great dance concert. The reaction from the audience members and my reaction as well towards the dance concert was that it was fantastic. I heard nothing but great coments about this dance concert.     I have been to many different concerts throughout my life but this year I experienced two exceptionally unique ___ that I had never seen before. The first one was a spectacular chamber recital that took place at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed by pianist Yefim Bronfman and violist-violinist Pinchas Zukerman. The program included Schubert's Violin Sonatina No. 2 in A Minor, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 7 in C Minor, and Brahms’ Viola Sonata No. 1 in F Minor. The second was a performance by the notable quartet “Anonymous 4” presented by the Universality of Chicago at the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. The program included a series of medieval French motets from the 13th Century French polyphony, taken from the Montpellier Codex. The two performances were extremely different in nature and but at the same time very similar in what they were trying to achieve. For instance, while the first concert consisted entirely of an instrumental performance, the other was exclusively vocal. I would not be able to comment on the performance of the orchestra. During the performance, I seen the audience were moving with the music, but I felt like that everyone seems knows more music than what I learned throughout this semester. After I went home and did some of the research on these music I finally understand why these people like to attend the orchestra concerto, it was because that every piece of music has a history behind it. The Los Angeles audience seemed to me to be people who know music and who will listen to something new in a respectful way.     I attended the Missouri Western Jazz Ensemble concert on February 3. I can thoroughly say I enjoyed the performance. For being a rather small band, less than twenty members, they certainly packed a very large sound. To me the band sounded as though it was very well rehearsed.     Claude Debussy’s La Mer is a very beautiful piece of music. I thought the concert was wonderfully done. The music sent chills down my spine and I was really able to just sit there and listen. One thing I would have changed is having the live streaming video of the orchestra members displayed on screen behind the orchestra. I found it a little distracting because I would find myself watching the musician without listening to the music. I would have liked the concert more if it had been earlier in the day also. Concert music is so peaceful in my opinion, at least usually in the first movement, that I sometimes become drowsy. I think I could have had a better experience if the concert had been at an earlier time because I was already feeling tired when it started. After hearing the music, it only added to my drowsiness. I have only been to a few classical music concerts but I would have to say this one was my favorite by far.
