My Interest In Applied Economics and Management

While I’m still not certain of what I want to be, I do know that I have a fascination with business and entrepreneurship. The prospect of being able to start a company and successfully run it excites me. Out of the 7 colleges/schools that Cornell has to offer I think I would be the most successful in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences because they offer a major that I am very interested in, Applied Economics and Management. I like AEM because of its flexible degree requirements, which allow me to supplement my knowledge with the things I happen to enjoy doing. And with so many courses and extra curricular activities to choose from, going to Cornell presents an unrivaled opportunity to receive a world-class education.

I’ve visited Cornell numerous times and thing that always impresses me is their intellectual and cultural atmosphere. The sheer diversity of the student body and the free exchange of ideas from people of all walks of life and with different values and experiences make Cornell a intellectually stimulating place to go to College. While visiting Uris library my friend (a Cornelian) took me into the Andrew Dickson White room. This was one of the most beautiful rooms I had ever seen. It was truly inspirational.

Starting my education at Westchester Community College was an upsetting prospect. The fact that I would not be able to have the “typical” college experiences that my peers would be having irked me. Unlike my friends, I was not excited to start my first year nor was I happy to still be living at home. So once I started my freshman year at WCC it was obvious that I wasn’t going to be optimistic about my ambitions as far as my grades and attitude were concerned. ...rian Shockley, I found that Boston University's program would best prepare me for a position in the hospitality industry. I would not only be able to study the hospitality field, but I would also be able to experience it first-hand through internships and study abroad programs. I already have a few internships lined up for next semester and summer, and I could apply these work assignments towards my eight hundred hours of field experience. Also, the study abroad program would be a great way to travel to another country, learn about its culture, and see how the hospitality industry works on a global level. Boston University would be the college of my dreams because it would provide the rigorous educational atmosphere that I am looking. BU has an exceptional reputation that sets it apart from other universities, and I would be proud to be a student at Boston University.
