A few minutes before we landed at the airport, I looked at the screen in front of me and it showed ‘33°C’. It had been a year since I last experienced that kind of heat and I couldn’t bear it last time, so I wondered how I would cope with the heat this time. As the plane began to slow and turn into terminal, I could hear people around me start to get there belongings together so that they could get off the plane first. People returned the magazines to the rack on the back of the chair in front of them and I turned off my iPod and put it back in my bag. When I took my headphones out, I felt like I was back in the real world now as I had been concentrating on listening to music for hours. It seemed like time was going slower and slower because the plane had stopped and it had parked but the seatbelt light was still on.
Moments later, I was in the immigration department and it was like I a tin of sardines. People were standing shoulder to shoulder as the stewards urged everyone to move forward so the process could be quicker and people could get out of the sauna as quick as possible....
I remember as a young child about 9 years old always given the privilege to visit my grand parents in Rutherfordton, North Carolina in the summers. I loved my grandparents with all my heart since they were the only set I had ever known. My father had left my brother and I at a young age and his parents had seemed to have left as he did. Every now and then they would resurface but never really had any part in my life. My mother’s parents were known to all of us as “Maw-maw and Paw-Paw”. With me being from the North all the Yankees addressed their grandparents as “Grandma and Grandpa”. I always felt extra special being able to call them Maw and Paw. It gave me a feeling as if “they”were different from other grandparents and in my eyes they were. My Maw-Maw was very short and plump, glasses, wore a dress with an apron and pure white hair with yellow highlights. I remember hugging her one day and the sun was reflecting from her hair. I noticed the yellowish streaks that flowed throughout. My hair was dark brown and it made me wonder what I was going to look like with white hair as she did. Her hands worked tripled the years I had lived. They were hands that were worked to the bone by farm life but when I was hurt she would comfort me. Those hands you would have thought belonged to a brain surgeon. She married at 13 years old and had her first born at 14 years old. Eight children in all and a marriage of 54 years to follow. My Paw-Paw was of a tall nature and had black coal hair. He had skin as brown as clay and he never showed his skin. He always wore long sleeve shirts and overalls and boots. Everyone who has ever been to Disney World thinks it’s going to be the vacation of a lifetime but when we went it was the vacation from Hell!
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
I was astonished by the sight of the enormous plane I was getting ready to board. The plane was ready for everybody to board every one stood up and formed a line to start boarding the plane. They checked our tickets to make sure we wouldn’t go on the wrong airline flight. I wanted to get a window seat so I can look outside from high in the sky. It was an amazing view from up above the clouds it just looks like a blanket of white puffy pillows as far as the eye can see. I took a couple of pictures so I can show the family how wonderful it looked up in the sky. When we encountered some turbulence it was extremely terrifying everything was trembling it came at worst time ever because I had a drink in my hand when it started and the soda fell on me and the floor and some even spilt on the passenger in the seat next to me. I started to apologize for what happened he said it was fine I told him it was my first time I didn’t know that was going to happen. He smiled and said “the same thing happened to me my first flight I had some soda on the women next to me”. We just shared couple of stories to make the time to by faster he was very friendly and liked jokes. When we were about to take off I smelt a terrible smell. "It must be something gone bad. It smells kind of like moldy cheese," I thought. What I saw next took my mind off the smell faster than a wild gazelle. It was a white building in the shape of a pentagon. In fact it was the Pentagon. It was ginormous, it was fascinating. Then we started to turn, and I saw the Capitol building up close. It was white like snow and it was very tall. We were on another Embraer 190 and the flight was very smooth. When the flight attendant came, I got a pineapple Fanta and then I got out my salad. The next time I looked out the window, I saw the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. I watched more River Monsters on the television and then I needed to go to the bathroom. I stupidly took out my phone to play a racing game, but I forgot to turn off my volume so it blared the sound of a NASCAR sprint cup car zooming by. At home, my parents were throwing a party and having family over. They were discussing where we should go for our family vacation. We decided that we should go to Las Vegas. I did some research on Las Vegas and I heard some pretty negative stuff over there, so I’m basically nervous about my trip. Due to some cases of kidnapping, people going out of control and mugging people.
I stood in the town square of the small village. Like any other normal day, people were going about their day-to-day business. Old men sat on a wooden bench beneath a large tree and predicted this year’s crop. Women shared town gossip as they shopped for groceries, and children sucked on lollipops while they played along the cobblestone streets. However, unlike any other day, the whole crowd had stopped in unison and darted their eyes in my direction, their full attention on me. I heard hushed whispers as I passed by the crowd, “Americano!” “Oh mio Dio, guarda com’è alto!” I lowered my head as I thought to myself, “What the hell am I doing here? I’m in a country where I don’t know the language or the culture, and I have another nine and a half months until I go home!” I didn’t know it then, but those nine and a half months that lay in front of me would be the experience that would challenge my views and goals and help shape the person I am today.

This is the actual story of a trip I took with Smith Family into Canada. The total head count was 19, including myself. The trip took 8 days to complete. We left on Saturday, June 24 at 12:00am and got back on Sunday July 1, around 3:00pm.
I’m on a muddy, yellow bus coming back from camp. I'm twelve and so are you. Prior to leaving for camp, I had imagined it would be just me and three, maybe four, other boys that I hadn't met yet, running around all summer, getting ourselves into trouble. Playing games and just enjoying our summer. You know, typical boy stuff. Ultimately it ended up being me and this one girl. That's you. As long as we are still on the bus its like we are still at camp. Once we reach the pickup point where our parents would be waiting for us camp will be over.
My favorite summer vacation was when my Father took me to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. What made it even more memorable was the fact that it was my very first time on an airplane. I cannot recall another time in my life when I experienced so much joy. That trip to Universal Studios was the first time my Father and I actually did something together, just the two of us and was something brought me close to my Father. In this essay I will tell you about my plane ride over there, what I did right when I got there, and about my time at Universal Studios.
I had been to Spain before and knew it was the perfect place if you wanted sun, peace and quiet. As soon as I got off the plane I could feel the humidity and smell sweat in the air, even though the airport was air-conditioned. Our rental car wasn’t big enough to fit all three of our suitcases in the boot so we had to put the third, and the biggest, on the backseat of the car making a barrier between me and my younger brother. Sleep came soon as I had no sleep on the journey so far and was rudely awoken at 4:30 in the morning to get to the airport.
Throughout someone’s life they will go to many places with their family, friends, another relatives. I have been on a few vacations that have made a lasting impact on my life. But one of the most memorable vacations I have experienced was with my cousins. I went to goa beach. Most of you probably don’t know about that beach but it is a very famous one in south India. I enjoyed myself to the fullest. The beach environment was enlightening. I would not have wanted to take this trip with anyone other than my cousins. We had a great time on the ocean sands and swimming in the ocean everyday made this vacation unforgettable.
My most memorable family vacation took place two years ago. We went to Corsica, a French island situated in the south of France right next to Italy. I remembered waking up early excited to visit this new land. Used to take long flights, I was surprised to arrive to the destination after a one-hour flight. Even though the flight was short for me, it was stressful for my mom, she has never felt secured in a plane, probably due to the fact that she is afraid of height. When finally arrived at the destination, the dry and warm weather was there to welcome us. We all felt relief, and knew that this was the beginning of the summer. T.S. Elliott's "The Family Reunion" is a play about the return to home, and the looking back at ghosts of the past. The play starts with Harry returning to his boyhood home for his mother's birthday. The plot centers around Harry's return, the mystery surrounding his wife's death, and his family's desire to have Harry take over the role as head of the household. It's an anticipated return, one that they all have been waiting for. There are concurrent plots threading through the work, such as the mystery involving his own father's death and disappearance, Harry's schizophrenia and Mary's return to the family as well as her inability to leave.
