It is evident that Western Cultural values are diffused worldwide through the movie industry. The films are controlled by western funding and reflect Western perspectives vividly. Between the lines in the scripts, filmgoers are urged to link the Western culture and “whiteness” with positive-hence legitimate-values and accept whites dominant position. Film is a powerful medium, thus movies were created with emotional designs on the individual audience in order to control his or her mind hence Hollywood serve as the functional means for establishing the concept of white supremacy. Hollywood movies are therefore the main instruments for establishing the whit supremacy mind-set that automatically triggers the message that whites are far superior than any other race. Ideological hegemony theorizes the way in which relationships of domination and exploitation are embedded in the dominant ideas of society. To the extent that dominant ideas are internalized, they induce consent to these relationships on the part of the dominated and exploited. Blood Diamond and In the Heat of the Night are two distinct movies where the movie makers present us with two different ideological concepts, Both films portrayed the white and non white consciousness. The white males probably weren’t expecting the reaction back from the black cop and since he reacted he sent people after him threaten him to leave but he didn’t. he stood up for himself and stood his ground by not acting off of the threat he received. This movie gives us an insight into the perceived relationship that exist between the different races in that era The sincere fiction in this film was show the whites seen the non white officer by him thinking because he’s a cop he can interrogate a white male. Even though he wore the police uniform he still wasn’t looked at as an equal or a man of power, he still was looked at as a black. We as a society tend to dismiss films as mere forms of entertainment. Both movies gives us different perspectives on the hegemonic ideology and society’s grasp of the roles of whites and blacks and what both represent to us.

Stereotyping is violent. During the film, when Officer Hansen and Officer Ryan are on duty searching for a particular carjacked vehicle. Ryan decides to stop a black SUV. Inside there is an interracial couple. The whole situation changes as he decides to hold their hands up and put them against the car. The couple, Cameron and Christine, are both convinced and have no choice but to follow the officer’s orders. Within moments, Christine is molested and sexually abused by Officer Ryan as he is searching her. Officer Ryan stops the couple for no reason. The couple is discriminated and handled with such pain and abuse. It is a wrong action. The officers here are not doing their job of assisting, protecting, and regulating people. Rather, in this instance, they abuse these innocent individuals and, most importantly, these officers lost their trust and respect. Stereotyping leads to misjudgments and often influences sexual violence over groups of people.
In the French film entitled Lumumba, director Raoul Peck recreates the revolutionary struggle of Patrice Lumumba, the newly elected Prime Minister of The Congolese Republic. In the movie, we do not see much of the independence struggle against the Belgian government, but we begin to see the reconstruction of the African state in African hands. While no one ever claimed that decolonization was easy, maybe this particular example can best be explained by Fanon’s simplified little quip “decolonization is always a violent phenomenon. ” In this paper, I will seek to locate where this post-colonial violence is located in discourses regarding race, class and gender. Particularly, I will look at the representations of race and class, and the lack of the representation of gender, in order to draw conclusions about the nature of representation and the effects this has on anti-colonial film.
Firstly, the movie showed physical violence against someone because of their race. This is portrayed when the combined teams arrived at Gettysburg College for camp. One black man puts a poster on his wall above his bed. Another white man says to take down the poster. When the black man refuses, tension rises, and a fight breaks out. If another white man had put a poster above their bed, there wouldn’t be a problem. When the black man did it, it was not accepted. The comparison and controversy issue between these two movies was a little sticky and risky than most all the way around. The main plot and summary of the two were based on the mean of the streets. Both these films were also based on a true story. They both speaks for itself on how things are and what things really mean. These two rated R movies has a very similar resemblance. The films commit itself to crime, racial and a lot of discrimination. The situations that were observed in the movies still is an ongoing aspect in modern day. All the racism and police brutality are the world’s controversy issue today. In the movies cops were killing politics with no sentenced time or little if they got any. They were beating our politicians with no punishment. In this world today, police are seeming not to help us but making us build up angry among each other. It was a lot of misconduct in these two films. The violence by police were very active by members. In these movies the police wanted people to separate and thought they should have their own territories. In “The Offensive Movie Cliché That Won’t Die” by Matt Zoller Seitz, He identifies the term “magical negro” as: “a saintly African American character who acts as a mentor to a questing white hero, who seems to be disconnected from the community that he adores so much, and who often seems to have an uncanny ability to say and do exactly what needs to be said or done in order to keep the story chugging along in the hero’s favor” (408) and in Mitu Sengupta “ Race Relations Light Years from the Earth” the author examines the movie Avatar as a racist film, and focuses on how it resembles the “white messiah” stereotype. The term “white messiah” is known as a white individual who hold superior power, according to David Brooks of the New York Times, “a stereotype that white people are rationalistic and technocratic while colonial victims are spiritual and athletic, and that nonwhites need the White Messiah to lead their crusades” (Sengupta 213). Both articles dwell and explain the two terms and how it portrays the themes of racism and stereotypes through two elements, known as author’s purpose and main idea. These elements effectively convey the theme because it prevents our thoughts from being scattered by a broad spectrum of ideas and instead, it tells you exactly what is going to be discussed throughout the article.

While watching movies, have you ever noticed that the villains in almost every single Hollywood film are of Middle Eastern or European descent? In a reoccurring theme of Hollywood, the villains in these films are almost always foreigners or people of color. This is a stereotype. On the other side of the spectrum, we often see that the heroes of these films are most often than not white males. This is another stereotype. Within the last few years, we’ve seen actors such as Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, and Zoe Saldana take the lead roles, so it can’t be said that there are no non-white heroes, but there certainly isn’t many. Hollywood action movies, moreover than other genres, are typically loaded with an abundance of stereotypes. The way these movies are composed and structured can tell us a great deal about the views held within the American psyche and who holds the social power. The harsh reality is that the media ultimately sets the tone for societal standards, moralities, and images of our culture. Many consumers of media have never encountered some of the minorities or people of color shown on screen, so they subsequently depend on the media and wholeheartedly believe that the degrading stereotypes represented on the big screen are based on fact and not fiction. It also helps open the eyes of Americans to see for themselves, literally, the struggles African American males face in comparison to other races and ethnicities.
Movies have had an influence on the American culture through the content of various issues. In American movies, the characters take on such issues as social reform, political views, and emotional turmoil. Movies have changed people's attitudes about consuming information. Today, movies quickly give us a visual picture of where and what the characters are doing. Most movies neatly package a story into less than two hours of carefully edited material. Movies have made current generations used to this way of consuming information and can often make reading a book seem to slow for them.
Throughout the entire film race is one of the most prominent themes. The film shows that racism is not one sided as the characters themselves are Caucasian, black, Persian, Iranian, and Hispanic. The film shows that race assumptions not something that is just in existence, but rather society builds up these prejudices and ideas. This can be seen when the district attorney wanting to advance his political career think he can just honor a black man or woman. He suggests a firefighter who his secretary then informs him is actually Iraqi.
