Motivation is the “why” behind our behaviors. Behavior that is usually goal-oriented. The forces that lie beneath motivation can be biological, social, emotional or cognitive in nature. There are, indeed, a plethora of inducements that cause us to act the way we act and do the things we do. They include things like quenching our thirst, reading to gain knowledge, studying to ace an exam, surpassing quotas and meeting deadlines for a promotion, etc. According to Kendra Cherry’s article on “WHAT IS MOTIVATION”, there are three components of motivation: activation, persistence and intensity. Activation is the decision to initiate a behavior. Persistence is the continued effort toward a goal even though obstacles may exist. Intensity is the vigor or energy that goes into pursuing goals.
Cherry holds the view that motivation can be extrinsic or intrinsic. She explains that extrinsic motivation is external forces or incentives, for example: money, promotion, trophies, etc. Intrinsic motivation comes from within a person and involves contentment with just the personal satisfaction of accomplishing something. My view on this is that everyone engages in certain behaviors that are caused by extrinsic motivations, but the more I mature and experience life, the more I realize that having intrinsic motivations are far more satisfying, far-reaching and life-changing. A person’s inherent satisfaction will stem from a measurement of comparing themselves to themselves to determine if the person they are today is better than the person they were yesterday or what they did today is better than what they did yesterday. motivation is a behavior that makes people want to struggle all the time until he or she achieved the things that they all wanted. motivation can be divided into two ways, intrinsic and extrinsic. the intrinsic one usually comes from his or her desire and this method is really proven that it can possibly achieved if this intrinsic method is used because we do not need to rely on people around like friends mostly. the extrinsic one is the reversal from the intrinsic that we rely on the people who taught us to be motivated and this method quite or often proven or succeed because human also need a help each other.

Motivation can be most commonly defined as the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way. However, motivation according to Daniel H. Pink in his book Drive can be explained in several different ways. Motivation for me differs from these explanations as it is not only about rewards and punishment, but also about self-gratification. An example of something that personally motivates me in my endeavors is becoming successful in the future.
Motivation is the desire to accomplish something and it could be described in two ways: Intrinsic and Extrinsic (Ryan and Deci, 2000) - Intrinsic motivation is described by an interior desire to do things out of pleasure or love, worthy of note is that intrinsic motivation is not same to all individuals i.e all people are not motivated similarly by the same thing. In Gredler, Broussard and Garrison (2004), motivation is “the attribute that moves us to do or not to do something” (p. 106). This means that motivation is perceived as the drive to accomplish tasks or the very reason the tasks are not being done properly. It is basically what makes a person put or choose not to put in their effort when completing work.
