Motivation affects nearly 75% of K-12 learners in education. It is a problem that effects students' learning ability, causing them to detach from the classroom setting, which later results in failure on standardize tests. Motivation is very essential in education. It implicates the reason of a child's actions and behaviors in a particular way. The theoretical background for this study centers around ways students' interest level arises and fails, and what strategies and activities motivates them when learning. Educational researchers pronounces that students are motivated in education, proving that they learn best when they take lead of the academic curriculum. By taking lead of the academic curriculum give students the opportunity to teach the lesson to their peers. Results of this given tactic shows that student engagement arises as their motivational interest on the curriculum increases.
Statistics show that students are motivated in education throughout two basic orientations, namely ego/performance and task/mastery. Motivating students in the academic curriculum has been an effective strategy that enhances students’ knowledge when learning and engaging in the classroom curriculum. Appealing learners in education expresses the concepts and opinions of students' support in four-component conceptualization: attainment value, an achievement that is attained; intrinsic value, the belonging to something by its nature; utility value, an expected return and risk; and cost, the price of something. Slavin proposes several way to tap into students’ intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. For example, to tap into students’ intrinsic motivation a teacher should make the content interesting, relevant, useful, and engaging. As well as using a variety of methods to present the material. Such as, including videos, and inviting in guest speakers. (Slavin,2015). Educator’s should also work on creating a classroom atmosphere that is warm, accepting, positive, and makes all students feel welcome. One way in which this can be accomplished is by creating a classroom that that values cultural diversity. (Slavin, 2015). Tapping into students’ intrinsic motivation, “… prepares students for a world in which they will increasingly need to take responsibility for motivation themselves, and maintain high productivity in less structures, more flexible workplaces.” (Slavin, p.263).
These days, there is an ongoing debate among people about the importance of motivation. With many people claiming that motivation and structure practice can consider as the most effective method rather than teaching in classrooms. While many other arguably arrogating that classroom coaching should not replace with any other alternate methods. However, this notion merits serious consideration. In this essay, I will explicate my point of view by analyzing both the sides of the assertion.

The biggest question educators face in today’s classroom is what motivates a student to do something and why? Virtually all students are motivated in one way or another. Research of student motivation suggests a theory that emphasizes a social-cognitive perspective. The cognition of students regarding academic work are influenced by social factors, such as messages from the teacher about the difficulty of the task, the perceived abilities of classmates, and the information about the importance of learning the material (Urdan & Schoenfelder, 2006). In this paper the focus will primarily be on those elements within the classroom that influence student motivation and engagement.

What contributing factors affect student motivation towards success in college? Motivation is a force that helps people to achieve what they yearn to be, which helps people conquer obstacles to reach a goal. Students can be physically present in the classroom, but mentally absent. Many things can play a factor in student academic success from the quality of the professors’ lecture, to sufficient and modern facilities or the effective engagement between student and professors. In many researches including the books Lives on the Boundary by Mike Ross and Academically Adrift by Richard Arum and Josipa Roksa it demonstrates factors that students face in the achievement of academic success. Those factors that coincide on student academic success are motivation, life responsibilities, and preparation.
Key to any pedagogical practice is engaging the students in order to inspire learning (Peters & Le Cornu, 2006.). Regardless of the student’s age, if they are not engaged with their learning, construction of their understanding is not going to be as successful as if that engagement did occur (Jeanneret, et al, 2006.). Engaged students “also display curiosity, a desire to know more, and positive emotional responses to learning and school” (Akey, 2006.).
To a certain extent it can be said that without a sense of motivation, whether it be intrinsic or extrinsic, a child’s ability to learn and reach their potential is greatly lessened. Motivation is best described as an internal state that not only arouses and directs behaviour but also helps to maintain it (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2013). Motivation not only plays a large role in a child’s learning ability, it also shapes a student’s interests and enjoyment of school and study (Martin, 2003). The teaching should be student-centered. The purpose of education is to transform the knowledge to the next generation. Thus, everything we teach should be closely related to the student’s concern.
