Shanghai is located in the Yangtze River Delta in Eastern China adjacent to Hangzhou, Wuhan, Jinan, and Qingdao province. The city is bisected into two parts: Puxi which is the older part of the city and Pudong, the newer developed part. It is the most populated city in China with a total population of approximately 24 million and it is also the most populated city in the world. As one of the four direct controlled municipalities in China along with Beijing, Tianjin, and Chongqing, it consists of 16 districts and one county over 6340 km² of land. The name Shanghai comes from two Chinese characters: 上shàng (above) and 海hǎi (sea), together meaning “upon the sea”.
Shanghai has a well-developed public transport system based on railways, metros, and buses, which makes Shanghai a one of the most popular tourist destinations all over China. Shanghai is also well known for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple, and Yu Garden, as well as many both large and small art museums, which is why Shanghai is sometimes referred to as the artistic capital of China. As an international financial center, Shanghai is proved to be one of the most developed cities in the world. Statistic shows that “in 2011, Shanghai's total GDP grew to 1.92 trillion RMB (US$297 billion) with GDP per capita of 82,560 RMB (US $12,784)”.
Current Tourism Plan
Shanghai’s tourism activities are overseen by the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration (SMTA), whom directly reports to the Shanghai Municipal Government. Its main objectives are to regulate tourism activities in Shanghai, implementing trade policies, as well as promoting and encouraging travel industries.

...e tourists. The plan did mention that Shanghai will implement training programs but not all working class will participate since it takes up time and might cost money. Most service-related working class would probably rather work and earn money right now, rather than taking classes for the future.
Another major problem is that in order to be a “Four-Centers” city, Shanghai might increase the quality of the local community. China is known to have lower quality environment and citizens, and with the high density of Shanghai city, it is harder for them to control the quality. If tourists visit and does not leave with a good experience, the chances are that they will not come back for another visit, or they will tell their friends and family not to come. Shanghai has to come up with strategies dealing with the micro level of tourism and not only the macro level vision.
Shanghai's place in history is certainly a grand one. The city endured a century of occupation by over a dozen foreign powers. It was a massive trade center. It was the home of the largest crime syndicate in all of China. It was truly sui generis. One of the most important aspects of its history was that of the imperialist. For most, imperialism represents callous abuse of the native world. For most, this is correct, and Shanghai is no different. However, the role of the imperialist in Shanghai was much broader. Imperialism in Shanghai paved the way for swifter modernization of everything from its street lamps to its police.
My mom would always say, “American born Chinese students have it easy in America.” One key difference between the American education system and Chinese education system is the way they are taught. Being raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I went to school to understand the idea of analyzing and understanding concepts. After reading Only Hope, I realized that their education is based on more memorizations. To Chinese students, understand the concept and apply it is not the most important, you must just memorize it for the exam. Many parents in China would say that going on vacation and relaxing is a waste of time because they need to focus on learning. In Greenspan’s article, it mentions that a student in China is the top of her class and is fluent in English, yet she cannot go on vacation because her mother wants her to spend time learning, many students in China
China’s economy is one very large indicator of its role in globalization. “In 2010 China became the world’s largest exporter” (CIA World Factbook). Without China many places such as the United States of America would be without billions of goods imported from China annually. An influx of companies moving their manufacturing to China has allowed people to flock to cities and find jobs. China’s economy has grown exponentially over the last few decades. In the last three years China’s economy has grown by nearly ten percent every year. Despite this influx of money to China it has also resulted in many drawbacks. For example, China’s environment has been obliterated. China burns more coal than every country in the world combined. Beijing has been so badly polluted that there are actually companies that sell cans of fresh air to people, and gas masks are a common sight. On January 12th 2013 Beijing’s air pollution reached a record setting 775 PPM. To put that into perspective, the scale for measuring pollution is 0-500 PPM. This set an all-time recorded high. In Los Angeles a high ...
According to a 2013 estimate of purchasing power parity, China has a GDP of $13.3 trillion. It has a 7.6% GDP real growth rate and ranks 120th in the world in GDP per capita. One of the prime advantages of China is a populous labor force that ranks first in the world, totaling 797 million evenly split between agriculture and services with a few less working in the industrial sector. The unemployment rate is a manageable 6.4% and a 7.7% industrial production growth rate. China exports electrical and other machinery, data processing equipment, apparel, radio telephone handsets, textiles, and integrated circuits primarily to Hong Kong and the United States, as well as to Japan and South Korea. China also imports electrical and other machinery as well as oil and mineral fuels, metal ores, nuclear machinery components, optical and medical equipment, motor vehicles and soybeans. Its primary import partners are South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, United States, Australia, and Germany. China utilizes transportation through its 507 airports, and a railway system that ranks 3rd in the world totaling 86,000 km. China also makes use of its roadways totaling in excess of 4,000,000 km and stakes claim to the largest amount of navigable waterways in the world. Major seaports include: Dalian, Ningbo,...
The second scene in both medias still lack a sense of connection. In the film, China town is futuristic and has an over whelming amount of people which gives more of an illusion that society is still alive and running. The town was displayed in the film with a variety of people walking around the city and buying from food vendors. The city looked so packed that people trying to get around the city would walk without having any space for any other type of ...
Stretching a total of about 3,964 miles, the Yangtze River has played a considerable role in the lives of Chinese citizens for thousands of years. Along with serving as a major form of water transportation and trading, Asia’s longest river is considered a key role in China’s agriculture and economic system. Where the river runs through Sandouping, one would find the Three Gorges Dam—the largest, and possibly the most infamous, dam in the world. Even though the Chinese government had intentions of using the dam to control flooding and generate power, the Three Gorges Dam has proven itself to be an environmental catastrophe for the Chinese.
Though China is the world's fifth-largest country in terms of area and the second largest country in Asia, it is the most populous country in the world. There is over one billion Chinese people which is 19 percent of the world's population and the population still keeps growing. From 2000 to 2010, Chinese population growth is about 6.2% and if we compared the population from 1960 with 2010, the population had grown more than 100%. While half of Chinese people live in the rural areas, the urban population is growing rapidly. In January 2012, urban population has exceeded the rural population for the first time. Now about 100 million rural people become migrant workers which move in and out the cities in search of work. This has caused many problems in China , since in the past and the present day, such as traffic jams in the city, pollution, and most importantly the shortage of food and shelter. This might affect the Chinese economic as well.
As China has industrialised, it has brought various environmental challenges into people’s life. The biggest one being air pollution, which has led to Beijing being addressed as the pollution capital of the world.

When people travel to a destination, they sure have some motivation to motivate them to make the decision. ‘Motivation’ is the key term that will make the tourist to consider the reason to travel around. During the decision making process, people will consider some of the reasons before they confirm travel to a destination. The research that has conducted in The Netherland found out a remarkably high propensity to travel, 70% of the populations are taking one holiday per year and 24% was taking two holidays per year for holiday. Some of the people will affect their decision making by looking at destination image or some of the impact advertising. On the internet, business people will use image and advertising to attract tourist to travel to the destination by using image that they edit before. This is part of the marketing to promote their country to tourist. For family traveler, they will consider the distance and transportation travel to the destination. When go for travel, tourist will bring the whole family to travel. Then, they will consider old people who travel long journey are very hard for them. If one of the family members are senior citizen, they need to consider their healthy. Some of the senior citizen cannot take long journey, such as they have sickness. Bring children go for holiday also need to be consider. Some of the children will afraid of the highest in the plane, so they will feel uncomfortable. There is plenty of reason need to consider before making any decision to travel. For understanding tourist motivation and decision making is for two main reason, planning consideration and economic consideration. (Page & Connell, 2009) Before the tourist travel to a destination, they need to think about culture, climat...
For the past few decades other forms of tourism, also known as niche tourism, have been becoming more popular, particularly:
In China, very few pieces of architecture are still intact. Most of the influential architecture left is the Forbidden City. One main idea in Chinese architecture is walled cities, like Beijing and Chang’an. These cities are rectangular in shape and have streets that run north, south, east, and west like a grid pattern. The Chinese architecture concentrates on the balance and symmetries. The palace in the center of the city is based on the idea of the harmony of the universe and its cosmic order.
Tourism is a typical activity of fashion that the public participate widely and it has grown in importance over recorded human history. Innumerable articles refer tourism as “the world’s largest industry”; policy-makers, analysts, and scholars often speak of the size of the tourism compared to that of other industries (Smith 2004: 26). These series of misleading statement, together with the mass media’s reports (out of context), make the idea that tourism is a single large industry branded into many people’s minds. However, in this essay I will demonstrate that it is a simplistic and misleading idea, which should be replaced by the plural term, “tourism industries”. Moreover, tourism is not the world’s largest industry, but largest service sector.
Tourism is the one of economic and social activities that increasingly vital. Number of travellers domestic and international is increasing. In fact, several countries in present world develop tourism sectors as primary sector which generate national income. According to Salah Wahab and Cooper (2003). Tourism is also sector which involves role that mutually link between government, private sector and also public.
