Unintended pregnancy continues to be a growing argument in the United States. There are many young women and female that is faced with unintended pregnancies. Many have to decide whether to keep their pregnancy or end their pregnancy. The most common method used to terminate an unintended pregnancy is by an abortion. However, many females and especially teenagers are not aware of another method used to prevent an unintended pregnancy called Emergency Contraception (EC). This paper will explore unintended pregnancy, EC, pro-emergency contraception and anti-emergency contraception opinions.

For example, a 2006 Associated Press-Ipsos survey discovered that 67% of Americans support the provision of contraceptives to students. This study also determined that, “About as many - 62 percent - said they believe providing birth control reduces the number of teenage pregnancies” (Associated Press). Childbirth is biological, psychological, and natural activities by which the human species grow into its family cycle and childbirth also have a sexual tradition. Beyond the emotions and the various phases that it creates, childbirth has specific criteria to be met on both man and woman. Their union must be founded on the reciprocal love, the biological and psychological maturation, and a developed sense of responsibility. Because of this, a pregnancy occurred early in life is becoming a situation full of social, economical and psychological difficulties. The birth’s pain is weighted quickly on the young and premature couple. In the United States, teen’s pregnancies from ages 15 -19 remain one of the highest situations in the modern world. It has had little chance of success because many teens are still becoming parents and this problem is constantly increasing in the Latino/ Hispanic community. Immigration, peer pressures, dropout rate, cultural difference, and economic disadvantages are main reasons behind the majority teen’s pregnancies in this community. After I explain why it’s important to reduce teen’s pregnancy rates, I will suggest some challenging yet feasible solutions to break the cycle of unplanned pregnancies.
The most common conflicts that cause a woman to get an abortion are based on their own personal responsibilities. Sixteen percent of women, who get abortions, believe that their life would be changed too much to acquire a child. Twenty-one percent of expectant mothers feel that they are not ready for the responsibility to care for an adolescent. Few as twelve percent have complications with relationships or are unmarried. If women were more informed on the appropriate use of emergency contraceptive, whether they are safe and also effective, then there would potentially be a decrease in unexpected pregnancies, and abortions. Women are often uninformed of emergency contraceptives, and although the lack of knowledge is obvious among the younger population, it seem to be even more obvious in the population of women over 30. There has only been a very small amount of researches done in regards to the counseling of emergency contraception and the way it was used, this would only be the third research conducted regarding this matter. Data was collected via questionnaire from the NSFG in 2002 from female respondents. The study collected a representative sample of 7,643 U.S women in the reproductive ages of 15-44 that were in civilian households. The women completed computer-assisted, face-to-face interviews that collected information of whether they have ever been informed of emergency contraception based on their age, race, ethnic background, marital status, if they have ever had an abortion, how old they were we they first had sex, and their education level.
Contraceptives are effective ways for coupes to prevent pregnancy. However, even with the best possible contraceptive available none are 100% reliable. Sterilizations do not always work, can come undone naturally in men, offer no protection from STI’s, and is usually expensive. Condoms can break, leak, or slip. Abortions are no different. If a woman were to choose to get an abortion it should be her choice and no one else’s. Abortion and pregnancy are things affecting her body personally.
