Technology is changing everything around us including our sports. With modern technology now, we can implement it into our professional sports to make the games fair. Instant replay is the most important luxury in our sports today. It allows officials and the fans to look back at the recent play and decide if the correct call was made. Not all sports have implemented it into its rules yet. The commissioners of America’s favorite sports are discussing the rules of instant replay and are including the use of it into the sports. Opponents of instant replay say that baseball already takes long enough and all that instant replay will do is make the event longer than it should be. Officials who are looking at these replays do not take very long to find the right call that should be made instead of calling the wrong call. Another reason that people oppose of instant replays is that it takes away human error from the game. There is no need for officiating if there is a video monitor that can see everything. Human error is a part of history in some sports like baseball. But with instant replays there does not have to be human error anymore and there should not be any more missed calls. “On September 7th, 1986, instant replay was used for the first time in an NFL regular-season game” (Dudko). The use of instant replay in the National Football League helps officials determine where the ball on the field is located. The referees are not one hundred percent accurate at placing the ball at the correct spot of where the runner is down. Therefore using replays can figure out the right spot. Instant replays also help referees make the correct call on the field to see if wide receivers make legal catches. In super bowl XLIII Santonio Holmes makes a historic catch for the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the game. To be a catch the wide receiver needed to have two feet in bounds with control of the football. The referees clearly made an educated guess because the play happened so fast that they could not tell the right call on the field for sure. With the use of instant replay the officials concluded that the receiver was in fact inbounds with control of the football which made Santonio Holmes score a touchdown and win the game for his team. Without instant replay the officials could have never truly made the right call and the outcome of the game could have changed dramatically. First the rule in the NFL was that the play would be an automatic penalty, would result in player fine, and an additional fifteen yards would be added from where the foul was committed. The play is reviewable; however, if the call on the field does not stand the player is not fined, but it is still a fifteen yard penalty. The problem of steroid use in baseball came into the national spotlight during the 1990s. It was during this time that home run records were being broken at an incredible pace. It was also during this period when several famous baseball players began to speak out about steroid use in baseball. The most controversial expose about steroid use in baseball is perhaps that of Ken Caminiti in 2002. Caminiti admitted publicly that he was using steroids when he won the National League’s Most Valuable Player in 1996 and in the several seasons following that. The 1920's were a time of change in the United States. For the first time in history, more people were living in cities than in the country. The United States was also wealthier than it had ever been. New methods of transport had been introduced. A lot more technology was also introduced, such as radios. This had made it easier to stay up to date with new stories.
Referee abuse is a major issue for all levels of sports. Referees play a huge part of the game and certain calls can anger fans, players and even sometimes coaches. This abuse can have physical and even emotional tolls on these referees. There are numerous instances where the refs have been hit and things have been thrown at them. This abuse needs to halt now.
The ball comes speeding over the net and slams down onto the face of the court landing just beyond the base line, the line running along the back of the court. I had called her winning point... "out." As I turned towards her, I could see the anger building in her eyes. We walked towards each other, and with only the net separating us, she began to confront me. She argued that, as she saw it, the ball was obviously in and that we should replay the point. I wanted this game as much as she did and we were both standing strong. I finally decided that there was no use in fighting. We had to resolve this argument between ourselves because there were no line judges to decide for us. We decided to replay the point and she won. I tried to convince myself that there would be times when a call would be questionable and that I should try not to point fingers. I still went home discouraged that night because I knew that the call I had made was fair.

There are many repercussions that are projected upon both men and women when they enter into a sport that typically isn’t thought of as gender appropriate. Some of those cultural and social stigmatisms may be abandonment by your peers, and friends questions regarding your sexuality, and even in some cases criticism as to how you are living your life. In some cases, it may lead to you not being accepted by either group, theone whose norems you are not following, of as well as the one with whom you are trying to get involved. This paper will address all of these issues and how these seemingly negative situations can, will, and are, leading to growth. It will also discuss how this is a situation where repercussions are not just in the sports arena, but is prevalent in everyday life, in areas far beyond that of sport.
