Dynamic changes in consumers’ needs and preferences had led to a long history of technological innovation and developments. Among these developments, mobile phone devices have had one of the fastest household adoption rates of any technology in the world’s modern history (Comer and Wikle, 2008). Since the start of the 21st century, smartphones started becoming widespread. From 2012 onwards, most of these phones began having high-speed mobile broadband 4G LTE, motion sensors, mobile payment and many more functions. As a mobile phone built on a mobile operating system, smartphones have more advanced computing capability and connectivity than feature phones. As humans become increasingly reliant on technology today, most smartphone producers would
The computation performed on mobile devices is referred to as Mobile Computing [1]. Mobile computing involves mobile communication [2], mobile hardware, and mobile software. Communication is among various adhoc mobile devices in a network which includes certain properties, operations and protocols. The iPhone revolutionized the mobile telephony sector as a whole with improvements in hardware, firmware, and marketing strategy as compared to all its predecessors. Its launch signaled the beginning of a new age of mobile technology. Before the iPhone, mobile companies used to control and compete by varying the aesthetics of the individual devices rather than firmware improvement (Apers & Paterson, 2010). This led to the stagnation of mobile technology market.

The significance of mobile applications, app stores, and closed vs. open app standards to the success or failure of mobile computing is that present day mobile users are very fond of applications. Generally, applications enrich the experience of using the device and allow for so many tasks and activities to be done all through your mobile device. When all that you need is on your mobile device, there is no requirement to have a desktop PC anymore. Applications also distinguish a company’s offerings from their competitor’s, giving them an edge when wanting to stand out in the marketplace (Laudon & Laudon 2014).
2013 has been the year where the aspect of technology has gone through many upheavals. More focus has been put on mobile technology this year rather than emphasizing the personal desktops and laptops. This year has been the ideal platform for these tech giants to come up with the latest iteration of the mobile operating system, which is meant exclusively for the next generation smart phone user. The present status: Apple has already released the IOS 7 and Google is still to release its new OS- Android Kit-Kat 4.4.
At the outset, mobile phones were considered as valuable resources that were shared by family members and close friends, rather than as purely personal devices. As times have progressed the way mobiles are perceived has changed, they have moved from the want segment to the need segment.
At an unprecedented pace, mobile technology made its way into all domains of our lives. Over the past few years, all kinds of applications exploded in functionality and in number. You can easily find a mobile application on the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store or maybe even on (near to closing) BlackBerry App World. So how can one capitalize on this shift towards mobile technology? This article discusses some key considerations to keep in mind, while working to succeed on this platform.
Despite the short amount of time since the introduction of the smartphone, the rapid development of the software and technology has had a tremendous effect on the everyday life in society today. The concept of communicating through a telephone was developed in the 1870s. Devices to transmit speech electrically were designed by Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell, but Bell's design was patented first. On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell achieved one of his greatest successes in the making of the telephone. This brought upon a major change in communication and gave leeway to the improvement of the telephone in the days to come (Bellis, 2013b). During the 20th century there were many innovations regarding the telephone. In 1973, the first call from a portable phone was made Martin Cooper, who was a Motorola researcher and executive at the time. Since its inception, the advancement of cell phones has been exponential (Bellis, 2013a). As a result, cell phones have changed how society works in today's world. Many people lack the insight of how cell phones, or in this case, smart phones, affect the people that use them. So the question is, how is the evolution of smart phones impacting our society?
Cell phones help us keep in touch with each other and allow us to enjoy media. They’re like computers that are in your pocket with the world right at your fingertips (Schlimm Web). Cell phones are gates to a world where we are all connected in one civilized group. “It is a device the ¾ of the world’s inhabitants has access to (Canton Web).” The need for computers now and days are slowly becoming less needed with phones being miniature computers (Schlimm Web).
Based on the statistics, children in United States now are more likely to one a mobile phone than a book, with eighty five % of kids owning a phone as to only 73% owning books.”(An Exploratory Study on the Trend of Smartphone Usage in a Developing Country, Osman, et al) Most of the people are using smartphone, and also, some of them has several devices, so the usage of it is unfathomable. Then, what people are using smartphone for? In the New York Times’s article the most used category of app in past 30 days was playing games. Second one was checking whether, third one was checking maps/using navigation/searching. Using SNS was in the fourth place. 49% of the smartphone users are using SNS. The number went higher then when people was using feature
