The Renaissance was a period of cultural movement and the introduction of cultural heroes, is known as “Renaissance Men”. One of these men was Michelangelo Buenarroti. Michelangelo was a world-wide known painter, sculptor, architect, and poet, who was of great Importance and had a great impact on our modern day culture.
On March 6th, 1475 Leonardo di Buonarrota and Francesca Neri had their second out of five sons in the small village of Caprese, Italy. They named him Michelangelo di Lodovivo Buonarroti Simoni. But soon after being birthed Michelangelo moved to Florence, Italy with his family.
As Michelangelo grew up, his father came to realize that Michelangelo was not interested in schooling or the family’s financial business, and would much rather watch the painters at the nearby churches and draw what he saw. An at the age of 13, Michelangelo’s father allowed him to take an apprenticeship with Domenico Ghirlandaio. During his apprenticeship, Michelangelo was exposed to the different art techniques of Fresco.
After only year as the apprentice for Ghirlandaio, Michelangelo was recommended by Ghirlandaio and given the opportunity to study the classical sculptures in the Medic gardens, of the Palace of Lorenzo the Magnificent.
During his three years with the Medici family, Michelangelo was exposed to the social elite of Florence. Michelangelo was also able to study under Bertoldo di Giovanni, which exposed him to many poets, scholars, and educated humanists.
After receiving special permission from the Catholic Church, Michelangelo was permitted to study cadavers for the insight into the human anatomy. Soon after, in 1495, Michelangelo traveled back to Florence to begin work sculpting and modeling his style after classical a...

Michelangelo’s legacy left behind a impact on our modern culture by changing the art world. For when Gothic styles taken over all over Europe, Michelangelo used his techniques to depict the beauty of human life and nature with old world methods.
Michelangelo’s revolutionizing artistic techniques reformed the art world for centuries, and still influence how art is created today. His perspective of the world and its leaders revolutionized the way artists portrayed their subjects and how gallant they allowed their artwork to be. Michelangelo will forever be known as one of the most influential “Renaissance Men” the world will have ever had the privilege of knowing.
