As we travel further into the age of technological advancement, media is being easily accessed by people of all ages. Whether it’s checking your Facebook, reading the newspaper, or just watching ads on TV, media is surrounding you a majority of the time. While media connects millions of people around the world in a positive way, there is a dangerous dark side to media that has become an increasing problem in our country. In the United States today, children are being abused on social media websites and getting access to websites that parents wouldn’t approve of. Other kids may be talking to someone who is their “friend,” but the person can actually be some sort of a predator. That said, this is an increasing problem in this country today, especially within our youth. The children of older parents are usually the most vulnerable due to the fact that their parents didn’t grow up with the technology, which makes it difficult for them to keep their children cyber safe. For these reasons, it is necessary to realize the negative effects media has on our youth and explore ways to make it safer for future generations. Electronic media is a mean of communication that influences a target audience through an electronic device. Social media, mass media, and personal media are the three main forms of media, each of them having their own subcategories. Some forms of media have been around for hundreds of years while others have only been around maybe a maximum of 10 years. This world has become immersed in online media from socializing on networking sites to seeking information on search engines. People of all ages have become reliant on online media, but the most engaged users are the younger, more easily impacted generations. Although there are many positive uses for online media, there are many negative uses as well. Unfortunately, it is all too easy for these negative effects to impede upon the perceptions of adolescents. Some countries have been trying to reduce this effect by expelling the inappropriate content of online media ("Influence on Children Media...”). However, in the United States, children are thrown in the waves, expected to stay afloat in this massive sea, but many are being dragged under the surface by the nefarious temptations media creates. Content that is not appropriate for the young, growing minds of children are easily accessible; a myriad of devices may be used to access this material, all at the click of a button. Without adult content filters on online media, adolescents of various ages are exposed to dangerous conceptions. A world of pornography, violence, and public humiliation lay in the user’s fingertips.
It is estimated that by teenager years, roughly 78% of adolescents will face issues with how they view themselves (Washington Dept.). As time passes, the number is steadily increasing. This is a major issue. Teens are exposed to the media every day and is impacting them severely. Media proves to have a negative effect on society and people in their preteen and teen years.
What is electronic media? Electronic Media is information or data that is created, distributed and accessed using a form of electronics, electromechanical energy or any equipment used in electronic communications. The common equipment we use on a day to day basis to access Electronic Media is our television, radio, computer, cell phones and other devices transporting information to and from us by means of electronic involvement.
This report describes the impact of social media on children, adolescents, and families. The author, O’Keeffe presents that the benefits of children and adolescents using social media; he also presents the rise of youth using social media. A few examples of the benefits include: growth of ideas, expansion of one’s online connection, and enhancement of individual and collective creativity. Media has a great importance in everyday life. People of almost every age use media to facilitate him in some way or to fulfill his/her need. To be informed. entertained. And to be educated are some of the basic requirements for using media.
Media has changed over the years, but what has remained the same is the influence media has over adolescents. Everything from television, the internet, even printed media plays a major role in how adolescent view them. According to Walsh and Ward (2008) state that media may play a powerful role in socializing adolescents, making their portrayals important to understand (p.133). Media places stigma on social norms of what society thinks of adolescent and most importantly how they are seen by peers. I will be focusing on the television aspect of media publication. It is known that youth are positively affected with the benefits of social media in connection with positive behavioral outcomes. Several studies have mentioned a number of benefits that a youth receives out from being a social media user. Furthermore, the youth uses Social Networking Sites to make their own profiles and connect to even wider networks of friends (Ahn, 2011)
Media is a very powerful tool, which can lead teenagers on their journey through life. This has invariably created tension between parents who have positive expectations for their teenagers and teenagers who view such expectation as hopelessly out- dated. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the influence of media on teenagers, especially how the media shapes the behavior of teens.

The mass media, including news, movies, magazines, music, or other entertainment source has become a part of daily life for many people. As the quote mentions mass media and its power are capable of influencing people’s mind and behavior. Contents in the media introduced to young people make it difficult for them to distinguish between what is real and what is not, as a result stimulating confusion and blind imitation. The mass media plays an important role in the increase of violence, sexual activity, and risky behaviors among teenagers.
