In four months I will be done with high school, and the time has come for me to go to college and learn a career. The career that I plan on choosing is a mechanical engineer. A mechanical engineer is a very broad career path with many jobs available. “These jobs can range from someone designing parts for space shuttles, buildings, computers, cars, and various other important mechanical parts that are necessary for today’s society” (bls.gov) . The part of mechanical engineering that I want to go into is the design of automotive engines. In this career you are hired by an automaker to design engines for their cars. An example of this would be Toyota hiring you to design a more fuel efficient and reliable engine for the next generation Prius.
The work of a mechanical engineer is in an office setting with visits to the production factories, and meetings with your team of mechanical engineers. The average salary is around $80,000 a year with the highest ten percent making $121,000 a year, and the lowest ten percent making around $52,000 a year. Employers are looking for individuals who are smart, diligent, dedicated, creative, and professional. An entry level job in mechanical engineering requires a bachelor’s degree.
The major subjects one has to study in college include physics, chemistry, and trigonometry. Internships are highly recommended for students in college studying for mechanical engineering. Jobs in mechanical engineering are expected to grow by 5 percent in the next 10 years which is slower than average compared to most occupations.
There are two automakers in which I would be very happy to be hired by which are Ford, or Audi. The reason I picked Ford was because I like the direction the company is going financially, and they are making huge strides in smaller turbocharged engines to replace the big gas thirsty engines found in most vehicles. The reason I would like to work for Audi is because they have a much different take on how to save gas and emissions. They use small clean turbo diesel engines in their cars to deliver better performance, fuel economy, and reliability than a conventional hybrid. I would also like to design performance engines for those brands as well.
Both brands have a long history with performance cars, and this has always interested me.
The world of technology is ever changing and advancing. With the automotive industry in play technology is constantly surpassing what is available today with what can be done for tomorrow. Technology and the automotive industry go hand in hand with constant improvement to components of cars. Due to technology advancement there is competition within the car industry, especially between American car companies and European car companies. European car companies provide their buyers with innovative variety and revolutionary luxuries. European car technology is superior to American car technology due to their safety, entertainment, and luxury features.
I need to know about production and processing an important characteristic so I know how to produce and supply products. Construction and building I will need to know so I can see structures and buildings and know how to fix the flaws needed. I know a lot about the construction and some about mechanical devices as well as math. I need to touch up on my math although I am good at doing it. I am working on math to prepare as well as working hard to become physically fit.
I think that the target audience for these cars is the same. these cars are family cars. Both of the cars are designed to be comfortable and safe, they are not advertised to be fast sports cars. or stylish city cars; they are advertised as normal cars. In both of the adverts there is no real reference towards the performance of the car apart from in the Chrysler where there is a reference to the fuel.
Innovation is the most critical component of a well-known luxury sports car manufacturing brand which has to maintain its legacy and compete with many known European automakers as well as newly booming tech companies. Porsche has being focused on gasoline sports cars which were very successful in last few decades but might not be the future of the industry and many of Porsche's competitors are engineering electric and hybrid motor vehicles, and also recent startups like Tesla motors are changing the whole phase of transportation technologies with their innovation in electric motors and batteries, beating gasoline motor vehicles. Mechanical engineers must be licensed of they are to do anything that affects peoples’ lives, property, or the environment. A bachelor’s degree is minimal for most companies. A master’s degree assures a better starting salary and opportunities for advancement. High school credits should have good grades in: math, physics, chemistry, biology, drafting, computer and mechanical courses. My interest in the field of Automobile goes back to my early years in high school which is when I decided to pursue a career in engineering. As a child I was always fascinated by the very concept of automobile. Further, my father’s constant involvement in the automotive industry as an insurance claims assessor further enhanced my interests in automobiles. He was the one responsible for showing me the correct path to pursue my career in automobile field. Hence, after having completed my primary education, I decided to delve straight into the world of mechanics and engineering and pursued a diploma in mechanical engineering followed by a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. We have reached a point in time where the antediluvian ways have either been completely forgotten or are simply ignored for loss of necessity. This fast progressing world owes everything to the researchers and innovators responsible for the ever changing paradigm of technology. My capability as an engineer, however, to be truly able to understand how the various design aspects behind each innovation, helping me ponder over the numerous ways in which it can be implemented for technological betterment is what makes me stand apart. Right from my childhood, I have been fascinated by bicycles, motorcycles, cars, mechanical structures and basically anything that had virile relations; this was mainly because of the automobiles and other vehicles in movies that always used to drum in a sense of amazement that used to reverberate in my memories long after.
