The Mavericks also known as the Mavs, are located in Dallas, Texas. They are members of the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. The Dallas Mavericks have been a known basketball team in the NBA for exactly 34 seasons. According to Forbes Magazine in 2013, the Mavs were considered the fifth most valuable basketball franchise in the United States, valued at approximately 685 million. From the start of the first team to the most recent team, there has been many wins but also a fair amount of losses. Out of the 34 maverick seasons they only qualified for a total of 18 playoff experiences.
During 1979 a man by the name of Don Carter wanted to bring a professional basketball team to Dallas. At the time the only other professional basketball team in Dallas was a team named the Dallas Chaparrals, who moved to San Antonio in 1973 and later on became the San Antonio Spurs. 1980 was the Mavs debut against the Spurs, the Mavs stunned the spurs 103-92. Although they won, the franchise finished the first official season with a 15-67 record.
A 6'3 guard Brad Davis was a Maverick that is remembered til this day and has had his jersey retired. Davis was brought into the franchise at the end of the first season. He started the last 26 games and led the team in assist and his career soared. Davis spent the following 12 season with the Mavericks. During the Mavs second season they brought in 3 players that impacted the team greatly. Mark Agurre was a 6'6 forward that averaged 24.6 points per game in his seven seasons with the Mavs and was the first pick in the draft. Rolando Blackman, a 6'6 guard was the ninth pick in the draft and over his 11 years with the Mavs he averaged 19.2 points per game. Being the 24th pick in the draft, the ...

With only averaging 9 turnovers a game (leading the NBA in the playoffs), shows that the Mavericks have more experience than most teams. The most valuabe player on the Mavericks at the moment is veteran and 8 time NBA All-Star Vince Carter. Carter is a former slam dunk champion and hasn't ever had the pleasure to win a championship. Vince is known for his big play making ability. During the third game with the spurs, the Mavs were down two points with the ball on the side line. There was only enough time to catch and shoot the ball. Vince Carter came off two screens, caught the ball and hit a game winning three to help the Mavs gain a game over their rival Spurs. Hopefully this will be the year Carter and the Mavericks use all of the experience and form it into a championship winning team.
When managers seek to improve their sport organization often times they refer to SWOT. SWOT is an acronym which stands for strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat. These four areas are tools used to address and fix any issue that an organization may have internally or externally. The Dallas Cowboys are an NFL team that uses these four categories to address any issues they may have in order to improve any imperfections for the betterment of their Franchise.

Paradise Lost is the first of three documentaries chronicling the story of the West Memphis Three (Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols and Jessie Misskelly) and the allegations made against them regarding the mutilations and murders of Christopher Byers, Michael Moore and Steven Branch. The film gives an insight into the investigation of the case with a great deal of detail using crime scene footage, court hearings and interviews.
In spring of 1991, the University of Michigan signed what was arguably the best recruiting class in the history of college basketball. Coach Steve Fisher signed five of the nation's top prospects - Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. Webber and Rose were childhood friends from Detroit who turned into McDonald's All Americans. The 6'9" power forward, Webber, was regarded as the number one player in the nation. Rose was a tall guard standing 6'7", who played like a young Magic Johnson. Howard, another McDonald's All American, was a multi-talented forward from Chicago. Texas natives King and Jackson capped off the Fab Five Freshman. While Jackson was an incredible defensive player, King was a super athletic guard [Wieberg].
Most people in todays’ society know how competitive the NBA can be. The NBA has been around for years and years and is now beginning to be more competitive than in previous years. So many teams have so much talent that some know how to use perfectly and some use it to a minimum. The NBA has different positions like Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward and Center. These positions require specific training and skills to know how to do. Some people have the talent for one position while some people can have the talent for all positions. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are the two most competitive teams there is in the league compared to the

The Miami Heart Franchise has been around for twenty-six years. In 1988, through an NBA expansion the team began begun with a disappointing start with a 15-67 record for their first season (Fleming, 2014). The progress was slow, however in 1992 made their first playoff appearance finishing fourth place. The Heat made their first trip to the NBA national championships finals in 2006 against the Dallas Mavericks. In this championship, the Heat accomplished a new feat. They rallied from a 0-3 deficit to win the finals.
The bulls were the best team in the NBA back in the day. Today the bulls have made many playoff appearances but haven’t won the finals, or even made it to the finals.
Michael Jordan’s retirement in 1998 marked the end of basketball’s Jordan-Era. The question became which franchise and players would ascend to dominance if anyone in Jordan’s abscence. This question was answered by two big men, whose unique play and winning attitudes would allow the coming decade, to of NBA basketball to be just as historic as the previous one had been. Despite their stylistic differences, Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan shared a knack for success. The begining of this era saw eight of the next nine NBA champions teams lead primarily by either Shaq or Duncan. Shaquille O’Neal, whose endless amount of nicknames, including the The Big Aristotle, Shaq Daddy, Shaq Diesel , stemmed from his dominant, loud style of play, as well as his boisterous personality. Duncan’s nickname, “The Big Fundamental”, a nickname which was actually given to him by Shaq, is a perfect way to sum up what Duncan represents. This nickname pays homage to Duncan’s no flash, strictly precise game plan and execution. These two superstars can break down through stats and style. I can't possibly sit here and pick Shaquille O'Neal over Tim Duncan or vice versa. They're just too different, yet identical in their impact. Shaquille O'Neal was all about power, while Duncan was/is about consistent non-flashy production.
When the league was created, the game was only made up of seventeen teams, both from small and large cities(History.com Staff NBA is born). The first NBA finals was played in 1947, and the first All-Star game was in 1951(NBA.com NBA Top Moments). However, through the 1950s fan support was lacking. By 1954, the NBA was down to only eight teams(History.com Staff NBA is born). This same year a person by the name of Leo Ferris invented the twenty-four second shot clock. This helped speed up the pace of play, which allowed the game to become faster and more exciting. In the 1960s the NBA was beginning to grow, but a rival league known as the American Basketball Association of the ABA challenged the NBA. However, this didn’t last long, by 1976 the ABA and NBA merged into one league. Another milestone for the

Michael Jordan, in his prime, was thought of as one of the greatest basketball champions of all time. A shooting guard, standing at six-six, Jordan was able to out play anyone in his position. He started his career at the University of North Carolina, where he helped his team win a national championship. He then was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984-85 season. While playing for the Bulls, Jordan received many awards such as, MVP, five championships, Olympic gold medals, slam dunk contests, and many more defensive and offensive awards. Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as a NBA Finals winner in 1998.
some of the best rebounders and defenders in the league. To be a good rebounder and defender, the basketball player either has to be tall, fast, or strong. So, it would make sense that they are good at rebounding and defending because they are tall, fast, and strong. They were both picked in the first round of the NBA draft. It is really hard for a basketball player to get picked in the first round but, that just shows how good they really are. Both of the teams obviously liked the two stars be...

Today’s league contains thirty teams and these teams are divided into two conferences, the east and west. Fifteen teams are in the east and fifteen teams are in the west. Another way they are divided is there are six divisions that contain five teams each. Two NBA teams the Golden State Warriors, and the Cleveland Cavaliers have battled it out in the finals for the last three years and are the front runners this year(Trenchard NBA Then and Now). In today’s league, players are relying more and more on a three point shot(Segal 14). Players like Stephen Curry are revolutionizing the game of basketball with their shooting talent(Segal 15). This causes players to have to contain a three point shot in their arsenal to even be considered a superstar(Trenchard NBA Then and Now). There are now even more international players in the league today, and many of them show great potential. International players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kristaps Porzingis are just a few examples of rising stars in the game(Segal 79). As of today the NBA is in a phase known as the LeBron era because of how he took the league by storm ever since he arrived.(Segal 22). Right now, guards are being seen as more of the focal point of the team rather than big men(Segal 33). Some of today’s brightest stars include guards like Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Stephen Curry(Segal 10). Last but not least,
