Introduction
Every 4 years, the Olympic games is a major event around the world. International athletes come together to represent their own country at a sport. A gold medal is given to the winner of each game. This math internal assessment aims to consider the trends of the wining men gold medalist’s pole vault height from 1932 to 2008, and predicting 1940 and 1944 record, when the Olympic games were not held due to the world war.
Data – Height Record 1932-2008
The table below shows the men pole vault gold medalists at various Olympic games between 1932 and 2008.
Table 1: the winning heights of men’s pole vault in Olympic games for years between 1932 and 2008. (Excluding 1940 and 1944)

A graph has been produced to represent this data visually with using excel.
Graph 1: The winning men pole vault heights record in Olympic games for years between 1932 and 2008. (Excluding 1940 and 1944)
The x-axis represents the year of the Olympic Games held, and it is begins at 1932 and ends at 2008. The y-axis represents the pole vault gold medalists in meters.
However, there is some limitation to this graph. Since there were no Olympic games held in 1940 and 1944 as a result of world war, the data isn’t consistent as 2 years of gold medalist heights record are missing. The graph also only shows the heights of the 1932 to 2008 Olympic games, which is a small section of the overall Olympic game data. The pole vault games begin in 1896.

I made assumption about World War 2’s effect on the logarithm graph and again lead to disregarding the points 1932 and 1936 record. It would result in a logarithm that would have exclude war, and this is shown in next graph.
Graph 7: Graph of winning heights against years since 1932 between 1948 and 1980 showing natural log graph.
This modified graph allows the natural logarithm graph to model the record better than not removing two points, 1932 and 1940. The majority of the points is passed by the graph and is closed to the line.
Graph 8: Graph of winning heights (m) against years since 1932
Since it is hard to make calculations with real years, I created a graph of height against years since 1932. When considering the trends line and possible equation of this graph models.

Since 776 BCE, the Olympics have been a way for people of different cultures to come together and compete in friendly competition. In 1892 the first modern Olympics were held in Athens, although it had been over a thousand years since the last game it still had brought together an assortment of different religions and ethnic groups together. Many factors shaping the Olympic Games reflect the changes that have taken place in our world since the last game in 393 CE in Greece such changes include woman’s suffrage, global economy, world wars, and proving competency.

The level of athleticism and skill required for a successful vault is overwhelming. Pole-vaulting, a Track and Field event, was introduced to the Olympics in 1896 (The Physics of Pole Vaulting, 2009). The goal of this event is to get over a bar that is set at a certain height using a vaulting pole for a boost. The athlete has three attempts to get over each height; once they have failed the three attempts, they are out of the competition. Athletes that are able to get over the height within the three attempts move on to the next height, which usually increase by 3 to 6 inch increments. Although the vaulting pole is crucial in pole-vaulting, there is more to it then that, all of which play a huge role in how high you get.
...o break the world record in the Games, and Teófilo Stevenson of Cuba was able to win the same division three times. Additionally, Aleksandr Dityatin of Russia won a medal in all of the men’s gymnastics events, earning him the title of being the first athlete to win eight Olympic medals in one game. There was also a notable confrontation between British middle-runners, Steve Ovett and Sebastian Coe.

The Olympic Games have been held every four years since 1896. Three times, the games were not held because of a world war. There were no games in 1916, 1940, and 1944. The first competition in modern times was held in Athens, but not all of the games have been held there. The Olympic Games are held in many different cities around the world. The 2008 Olympic will be held in Beijing, China.
The 1936 Berlin Olympics was one of the most difficult, yet most memorable of all the Olympics. Even with the Great Depression and tough conditions some athletes still managed to be victorious. This was not an easy task with a Holocaust raging in the background. However, if there was ever a time that people needed to feel victorious it was within this time period when people’s spirits felt squashed by the heavy hand of Hitler. There, in Berlin, people were able to rise above Hitler and show that no matter race or religion-one could be victorious.
During 2013 WBC, Cuba’s baseball game had so many people watching and paying attention that it made everyone forget what was going on with the olympics (“Echevarria” para.6). Around, 2005 the (IOC) decided to take baseball and softball out of the olympic games and was saying that it would not be apart of the 2016 Olympics (“Ec...

On one of my early jumps I had flown a distance over 27 feet, but unfortunately the judge ruled that my foot had crossed the board. After winning the gold medal by half a foot with an olympic record, I stood atop the podium, and it was one of the best moments of my life. I was able to represent my country and show off my skills on an international stage. Although I was both a world record holder and a gold medalist, my world record fell only nine days after a won gold. This was the pinnacle as my career as my jumper, as I got second place in 1930 at the NCAA finals to future Olympic gold medalist Edward Gordon. Although I liked being a jumper, it was impossible to make a living as an ametur athlete, so I decided to drop out of Georgia Tech and pursue a career in business, which ultimately led me to become a manager at Coca-Cola. The games also only took place over 16 days, rather than several months as previous games had done. In addition to these changes, the German team was finally able to compete in the games for the first time since 1912 due to their participation in the first world
Though the U.S. economy had gone into depression six months earlier, the Great Depression may be said to have begun with a catastrophic collapse of stock-market prices on the New York Stock Exchange in October 1929, when President Hoover came in office. During the next three years stock prices in the United States continued to fall, until by late 1932 they had dropped to only about 20 percent of their value in 1929 (www.english.uiuc.edu). Some of the stock figures I received from (www.huppi.com) indicate the changes of the Gross National Product from 1930 until 1939. The Gross National Product, or GNP, for 1930 had a negative change of 9.4 percent. In 1931, the GNP continued to decline another 8.5 percent. In 1932 it dropped another 13.4 percent and continued to drop 2.1 percent in 1933. In 1934 the GNP made a turn for the better and started to increase by 7.7 percent and continued to rise in 1935 with an increase of 8.1 percent. During 1936 and 1937 the GNP rose for a combined amount of 19.1 percent but do to the beginning of recession in 1938 it had a drop of 4.5 percent. Once Recession ended the GNP went up 7.9 percent in 1939.
