Most Americans are indoctrinated to believe that marijuana is harmful for you; however, upon closer inspection we see that marijuana has more positives than negative outcomes. Marijuana has been around since ancient times. It was first grown as a crop in colonial North America as a source of fiber. Marijuana has the most impact on certain parts of the brain, such as the hippocampus, the cerebellum, the basal ganglia and the cerebral cortex. Studies have shown that the high THC found in marijuana that effect these areas only provide therapeutic benefit that gives an individual a “high”. With that being said, Marijuana is not necessarily the best for you but it is less harmful than legalized substance such as cigarettes or alcoholic drinks which are easily at our disposal and are worse for you.
Marijuana has over 250 approved medical uses now, making it one of the most therapeutic drugs. Besides recreational use, marijuana can be used to treat a wide range of blood disorders, glaucoma, anorexia, asthma, anxiety, pain, nausea, arthritis, etc. Coming from a family where most of these disorders are prevalent, most of my family members are prescribed marijuana for medical use. My grandmother was opposed to Marijuana when she was prescribed it. However upon close examination and research, she learned that. Marijuana has a positive side to it that takes away pain and provides medical benefits, opposed to a cigarette or alcohol that both do not provide anything beneficial. Our current president Obama even stated, “pot is less dangerous than alcohol” which raised much controversy. However we find that this is accurate. We have many substances out there that only result in damaging outcomes, so why ban something that has effective results?...

...ld today. In the future marijuana will move from dispensaries into pharmaceutically places such as cvs and wallgreens. Instead of going to a “weed shop” or getting marijuana on the streets, years from now we will have referrals from doctors to get a prescription at a local pharmacy. The world is changing and so is society. If we continue to be close-minded and think marijuana is bad because of prejudice, bias, or pre conceived reasons we will fail to advance in our world as we know it. Legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes is a good thing. It is an expansion of human freedom. We have rights as individuals and this is one of them. Believing the myth that marijuana is all bad for you or a gate way drug is foolish. To many benefits come from this drug to be unworldly and believe that. With the expansion of Marijuana it will influence our world for the better.
