Marcus Luttrell is the hero that brought hope back to all SEAL/S members. He was awarded the Navy Cross for combat heroism in 2006 by President Bush. While fighting for our country, his whole SEAL/S team was killed right before his eyes. Missing in action for five days, he was badly hurt and was cared for by the Pashtuns. Marcus displays a variety of the IB Learner Profile such as; caring, knowledgeable, and principled.
Being a caring person is one of the many traits that SEAL/S members must possess. Since the very first days Marcus displayed an attitude of caring for others. When his team was fighting to stay alive, his first thoughts were about how his team mates were doing. He did not care much about himself; instead all of his focus was on them. Danny Dietz, a friend of Marcus for four years, died right there in his arms, but he made sure that Danny was not alone and was with God, ““I left him with God”” (266). Although Marcus could have been killed instantly right then he still made certain Danny was at ease, as he was slowly passing away. After this long journey was over wi...

He failed to report for duty and hit an officer, resulting in trouble (Biography, par 1, 2, 3).
military members who share harsh, traumatic, or even funny events obviously become closer through the bond of a mutual experience. This is particularly true for Marine infantry; many Marine are brought up in different areas of the US, with different values, ages, religious and political beliefs. However different we all might look on the outside, the fact that we’ve all been through good times and bad with each other makes us closer than any civilian could understand. After being a Marine, I find that I’m close to, and always will be, than my civilian friends who I’ve known for years. Along with this, Pressfield talks about how, under all the glory and allure of fighting for one’s country exists the real reason that warriors fight; for our brothers in arms. Political beliefs, government stances, and flags go out the window, only to be replaced by concern for the safety and well-being of the men to our left and right. All of these things are reasons why it is difficult for civilians to understand what it’s like to be a warrior. This is perhaps embodied best in our motto, Semper Fidelis; Always Faithful, to our brothers and those who depend on
Lieutenant General Lewis Burwell “Chesty” Puller was born on 26th June 1898, and died on 11th October 1971. He retired in 1955 as an officer of the U.S. Marine Corps and goes down in history as the only U.S. Marine to receive five Navy Crosses. ...aving any concern or sorrow for a fellow Marine. Sledge’s mindset in Okinawa vs Peleliu was much different in that he knew what to expect and knew how to survive. All of his abilities he developed grew as time went on.
John has always succeeded in every mission no matter what the cost. He has only lost a fellow Spartan in battle under his command when it is the last resort to further increase his team's chance of success, but every time a fellow Spartan has been lost it was because the Spartan volunteered to risk or give his life for the mission at hand. This shows that his teammates have the same view on a mission as he does.
Just imagine being the most decorated man in History and a movie star, but no one really knowing who you are. This man had done so much for our country during World War II and more people need to know who he is and what he has done. Audie Murphy is the most decorated Soldier in History and he is basically gone an forgotten about. Although we cannot bring Audie Murphy back, we need to inform more people about him and his accomplishments in the Military and civilian life.

I think everyone has wanted to be a Navy SEAL in one point of their life, but as they get older their dream of being the best of the best fades away. Marcus Luttrell has had that dream of being a SEAL since the age of seven, and his determination and will to survive the hardest training in military history, gave Luttrell the title of a Navy SEAL.
Private first class Pena, Jesus deploying to Iraq. My heart was racing, lungs felt as if they were about to burst out of my chest, and my hands were shaking so rapidly that the paper could be heard from 25 feet away. My name is Staff Sergeant Pena and this is my story of my first combat tour.
One example of this mercy is when Marcus spares Esca in the arena. Thumbs down from the crowd means Esca will die; thumbs up guarantees he will live. Marcus puts his thumb up and thinks to himself, “Thumbs up! Thumbs up, you fools!” (Sutcliff 47). At this moment, his uncle puts his thumb up, along with the rest of the crowd. This shows Marcus’s determination to save Esca. Marcus saves Esca in a different way by freeing him from the shackles of slavery. At the start of their journey, Marcus gives Esca his papers of freedom. He views Esca as a friend, not as a slave. Another example of Marcus’s mercy is when Marcus does not kill the chieftain’s brother in the watchtower. Marcus has the power to kill the chieftain’s brother and two other tribesmen, but he decides to spare them due to the fact that they showed him kindness at their
...played an excellent model of military ethics. Finally, I showed how my leadership decisions, although not combat related, bear some similarity in vision and ethics to Chesty’s standard, as set seven decades earlier. I can think of no better leader for today’s officers, both commissioned and noncommissioned, to emulate than the most decorated and idolized marine in history.
