Comparing the Websites of Frist and the National Gallery of Art

Art galleries and museums are buildings or spaces used exclusively for the exhibition and education of art, but that’s not all. Galleries and museums are an essential part of our society. Art in itself transcends cultural diversity and differences; the museums and galleries that display art present to us insight into the various cultures, backgrounds, and communities in an unprejudiced environment. They also provide a significant impact on local and state economics. According to the 2007 Americans for the Arts report Arts & Economic Prosperity III, In Nashville alone the art and culture industry provides 5,667 full-time jobs and generates 15.64 million in local and state government revenue. With so much riding on the prosperity of such institutions it’s very important for these places to maintain a strong web presence. In doing so, this will aid in driving more visitors to these much needed establishments. After reviewing both the websites of The Frist Center for the Visual Arts and the National Gallery of Art, it is evident that both websites serve as strong web presences for their physical counterparts. I plan to compare and contrast the overall design, exhibit content, and visitor information sections of each museum’s website.

With the direction that technology has taken us, it is very important that establishments have a website. An attractive user friendly design is an integral part of driving visitors to an institution. In viewing the website of The Frist Center and the National Gallery of Art, or abbreviated as NGA for short, you notice that both pages are designed with a vertical navigation page layout; with target content being centered. ...ore. It leaves them with the desire to get out and go explore these places in person. The Frist and the National Gallery of Art both have extremely well developed websites. They both convey the purpose and message of the museums they represent well, all the while presenting this information with their own unique website designing strengths.
