Before reading the text “Making chat activities with native speakers meaningful for EFL Learners” by Jo Mynard as we know our current world, plenty of technologies and inventions are being invented all the time. It is comfortable to live in this modern age. These technologies were invented in order to facilitate our life, especially in communication. Also, teaching and learning English now are quite influenced by technologies. English can be learnt from many mediums, such as CDs, cassettes, and especially, the Internet. In my opinion, the Internet is one of the most genius inventions; with just one click it gives us a great deal of information. There are other benefits of the Internet as well, for example, we can now communicate instantly with people from the other side of the world by making chat.
In my opinion, the author tries to convince readers of learners’ communicative skills will be improved by making chat activities with native speakers. Although some learners may have used chat room before, they may never interact with native speakers in the target language. Also, we learn English only some lessons in the book or class. If we chat with native speakers, we will have more opportunity to use various vocabulary; not only limited in the lessons. In addition, from my real experience, my friends who have plenty of foreign friends from making chat are quite good at English. They always mentioned that making chat with native speakers helps them improve English better than studying in the class. There is no teacher interrupting them as well as correcting their errors. Personally, I agree with them in this point. Not only students will practice interviewing the guests, they can also be interviewed. Using cha...

...peakers will improve learners’ communication skill, but this kind of activity also helps learners explore the world more widely without going abroad. The learners can learn another culture which makes them understand differences in each country. The most importantly, whatever learning should come from insight, making chat will increase the learners’ confidence to be able to communicate in actual conversation later. By the way, there are some points which contradict this text. Making chat might not practice learners’ pronunciation. The learners will not understand any accents because they just type the messages and there is no chance to hear the native speakers’ voice. In short, making chat is a good kind of activity to use in English class, but the teacher should add other activities which practice learners’ pronunciation in order to make learning more efficiently.
Imagine coming into a new country with no knowledge of their language. Now, imagine being a young child having to come in a new country with no knowledge of their language and having to go to school with the native students. That student who is in a new country and school will feel left out and frustrated. They are around new customs and people, the teaching that they were once used to has change and the teachers, they might speak fast and the student is even more confused and they might want to give up. This is where the school board comes into place and help students that is new to their county learn English with the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages(TESOL) program; to include the English Language Learners(ELL) students in the curriculum and have them interact with other students.

The evolution of technology has been apparent in a society. We have been having a lot of opportunities to use technology in our life; therefore, we might not have days without using technology. Although technology might give people disadvantages, such as physical or mental issues, they are able to avoid having the issues by appropriate the uses of technology. People are able to have various kinds of information with technology; especially, internet helps the user to find a wanted source quickly and easily. Most of people might notice that technology gives the user more advantages than disadvantages. As the advantages of using technology on learning, people are able to share their ideas quickly and easily, to have the abilities of multitasks,
Students in this stage have developed high fluency and confidence in English speaking and teachers within SGI can continue to facilitate communication activities such as sharing opinions, having debates, or taking part in improvised drama to practice oral communication skills as ELL progress in their language
The Internet is something that I was quite afraid of because of the fact that it was foreign to me. New territory is something that frightens me. I have used the Internet for reasons such as research for papers but not for pleasure. I have heard a lot of controversy about the Internet and how people pretend they are someone else and fool children and other people whom they are chatting with. For this reason, I am quite hesitant to try talking to people in the chat rooms. I am hoping that the Internet can provide me with lesson plans and other activities that I can use in the classroom.
First, the Internet has affected us socially and allows people to communicate with friends and family across the
From observing this lesson, I have learned a lot. Especially on how the instructor had all 3 skills: reading, speaking and listening into this one lesson. I would incorporate this into my own teaching in not just focusing on one particular skill. Also, as I was observing this lesson, I realized the instructor does not focus on grammar nor academic English, but rather focuses on the real life situation. She connects the activities and her usage of language in what students can use in outside the classroom. And that I would really incorporate during my practicum.
Chapter four talks about Ebonics and how it exists even though some of us agree with it and others disagree. It used with Native people and how they communicated with their child like baby talk which is vital for the child development. Teachers really push the children to pronounce words correctly which does not produce fluency but silence and resentfulness. As students grow from 1st grade to 4th grade their English changed from the dialect of mainstream society to their own community dialect. That happened through becoming aware of new knowledge or even just home and community environment. Recording the children conversation really helps them understand how they are communicating in English and own native language. Teachers including the majority teachers constantly categorize the minority children as incompetent and most likely to fail due to
In the field of ELT, different and innovative ideas have been added for language teaching. In the recent era, the trend is more towards Communicative Language Teaching(CLT).Compared to previous time when learning a new language was meant for reading literature, now it has become a necessity for communication. After mother tongue people learn another language for maintaining communication with the people speaking different languages. Hence, language is learnt as a means of communication rather than a subject. So, with the changed necessity of language learning, the teaching methods and approaches have also been altered.
Technology has affected the English language in both good and bad ways in that it has increased the rate that which we can communicate with each other, but at the supposed expense of the literacy of those who use these modes of communication. It seems, since the pros far outweigh the cons, that technology is helpful to communication because it can enables everything that uses it to function at a faster rate since things like instant messaging and text messaging arrive nearly instantly. The unique thing about these technologies is mainly that “if [people] are in school, you can give them poor grads; if they are applying for jobs, you can pass them over;” so what can we do
...ips, in not only the conventional use of communication (talking, conversing, etc.) but also the educational aspects of communication (spreading and sharing of information and ideas) then all that is needed left is to explain the vital ways electronic devices support communication in the strongest way. The calls and text messages allow communication to not be confined to physical presence, and also allow communication to occur more rapidly than mail, thus supporting the conventional use of the definition of communication. The internet also supported the educational use of communication through news outlet websites, online encyclopedias, social media, and the overall media. All of this, plus the large portion of the population electronic devices help, all support why use of electronic devices strengthens the most important aspects of our experiences and relationships.
A useful thing about internet is the electronic mail, as it gives us faster results than its regular and normal air mail. Internet gives information in any aspects of knowledge which is useful for student and for the business. Internet changes our life (and where sure to that). It gives us a lot of knowledge, advantages and disadvantage of course and we should be aware to that by using it and knowing what are those disadvantages. Though it gives a lot of advantages to us we should always look on the other side of it, for the reason of the social development growth especially to children. (Sonia79, 2005)
The students had to participate in various internet-based tasks with the purpose of learning the English language. Most students showed interest and agreed with the use of technology when learning English; however others expressed different opinions about the use of technology in the learning environment. The study is relevant to technology-enhanced language learning because it showed that the use of technology can, not only increase the students’ motivation and learning opportunities, but also contribute to the development of the students’ English

They need opportunities to hear, write, speak, and read English. Technology can play an integral part in providing English Language students with valuable language experiences as they learn a new language”(2005, p.56). In other words, technology provides a rich linguistic environment for English language learners and facilitates the language class. Wang (2005) and Green (2005) show that the diversity provided by a technology system can usefully affect language education in terms of the four macro skills. Also, in their argument, they answer questions about how efficient the integrating of technology in language classes is and what kinds of services computer technologies provide for these classrooms. Wang notes that “the best way to learn a language is in interactive, authentic environments. ‘Computer technologies’ and the ‘Internet’ are powerful tools for assisting these approaches to language teaching” (2005, p.39). Hence we should consider how effective computer assisted instruction can be a supplemental teaching tool for the teaching and learning of English language
