Camera Lenses
There are hundreds upon hundreds of photographic lenses that are manufactured by different companies all around the world. There are three main classifications of photographic lenses: the telephoto lens, the normal lens, and wide-angle lens. Tele means distant or transmission over a distance so therefore a telephoto lens is made to look at distant objects. Wide-angle lens have a larger than normal viewing angle than other lenses. Lastly, normal lenses have a viewing angle that is very close to a normal human’s viewing angle.

While telephoto lens have the property of reducing the distance between the subject and background, normal lenses have more of a normal viewing angle as what a human viewing angle is. This makes the distance between the subject and background much the same as we view it. With these types of lenses the area that a photographer has to work with is at a fixed interval making these types of lenses better suited for distances from eight to twenty feet. The most common focal length for normal lenses is around fifty millimeters. Normal lenses are one of the most common lenses in the lens market. With the wide verity of different fifty millimeter lenses, this makes many of them cheap and a great starter lens for beginners. Wide-angle lenses allow more of the scene to be included in the photograph, making it very useful for interior photography. With the wide area of view there is some perspective distortion making the outer most of the picture seem ballooned out. The wide-angle lens has the tendency to cause the distance of between the subject and background seem much farther than they actually are. With a wide area of coverage the space between the subject and the camera is reduced greatly making it much easier for the photographer to take pictures in inside areas like houses. Hardy attempts to illustrate Michael as a common man, which ultimately serves his purpose of exposing the archetypal and somewhat psychological realities of typical, everyday people. According to archetypal literary critics, “archetypes determine the form and function of literary works and … a text's meaning is shaped by cultural and psychological myths.” For that reason, Henchard is a perfect example of the archetypal fall because Thomas Hardy is demonstrating how Henchard reacts to situations like a real person would and that life is not always as simple as it is depicted in fictional fairytales. The archetype of Michael’s fall functions as Hardy’s vehicle to relay the meaning behind his work.
Practiced by thousands who shared no common tradition or training from the earliest days of taking photos, the first photographers were disciplined and united by no academy or guild, who considered their medium variously as a trade, a science, an art, or an entertainment, and who often were unaware of each other’s work. Exactly as it sounds photography means photo-graphing. The word photography comes from two Greek words, photo, or “light”, and graphos, or drawing and from the start of photography; the history of the aforementioned has been debated. The idea of taking pictures started some thirty-one thousand years ago when strikingly sophisticated images of bears, rhinoceroses, bison, horses and many other types of creators were painted on the walls of caves found in southern France. Former director of photography at New Yorks museum of modern art says that “The progress of photography has been more like the history of farming, with a continual stream of small discoveries leading to bigger ones, and in turn triggering more experiments, inventions, and applications while the daily work goes along uninterrupted.” ˡ
Myopia and hyperopia are two such conditions. Myopia is more commonly referred to as nearsightedness and leaves the person with the ability to see objects that are close up clearly, but those that are far away are out of focus. Hyperopia, in contrast, involve the inability to see objects that are near clearly and is often referred to as farsightedness. Objects that are far away, however, can easily be seen.
This is a representation of the eye's lens system. This eye has no eye condition, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, and the lens is drawn in its relaxed position. The light rays are focused appropriately on the retina. The thickness of the cornea is 0.449 mm, the distance from the cornea to the lens is 2.
A few of the camera angles used are long shot, medium shot, high angle and bird’s eye view. A long shot to show the link between characters/subjects and their environment and draws the audience’s attention to a particular aspect of the surroundings. It can also indicate the atmosphere of the film. A medium shot shows a characters facial expression and body language, and for us to get to know the characters and how they relate to each other more closely. A high angle shot makes the person or object look weaker, inferior, under pressure or vulnerable. Lastly, a bird’s eye view gives the audience an overview of where the character or subject is positioned and enables the audience to see what is going on away from the characters immediate
Light rays gather through the opening of the telescope called the aperture and pass through the objective lens and refract onto a single point called the focal point. From there, the light rays continue in the same direction until it hits the eyepiece lens, which also refracts the light back into parallel rays. During the process, the image that enters our eyes is actually reverse of the original image and magnified because of the size in which we perceive the image.

When going for a walk, a person takes in the beauty around them. On this particular day, the refulgent sun is extra bright, making the sky a perfect blue. White, puffy clouds fill the sky, slowing moving at their own pace. The wind is peacefully calm, making the trees stand tall and proud. There is no humidity in the air. As this person walks down the road, they see a deer with her two fawns. The moment is absolutely beautiful. Moments like this happen only once in a great while, making us wanting to stay in the particular moment forever. Unfortunately, time moves on, but only if there were some way to capture the day’s magnificence. Thanks to Joseph Niépce, we can now capture these moments and others that take our breath away. The invention of the camera and its many makeovers has changed the art of photography.

He said, “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” Photography has a long interesting history, like the fact that the word photography is made up of two greek words, photos meaning ‘light’ and graphein which is ‘to draw’ ! Photography also has some complicated techniques to get a hang of taking good photos. Have you heard of the rule of thirds? Or do you know how a camera works? Well, that will all be explained. Maybe, by the end you will take up photography too. This essay will explore the history and types of cameras and the basic rules for taking photographs.
In Sontag’s On Photography, she claims photography limits our understanding of the world. Though Sontag acknowledges “photographs fill in blanks in our mental pictures”, she believes “the camera’s rendering of reality must always hide more than it discloses.” She argues photographs offer merely “a semblance of knowledge” on the real world.
Camera History.The first camera like devices can be seen as far back as Ancient Greece and China. This piece of early technology was called the Obscura, the invention of this was an important part in developing cameras and photography. A camera Obscura is a dark closed space that is shaped like a box with a hole on the other side of it. The light that comes through the tiny hole projects an image that meets the wall of the box. The image was then drawn by an artist; however, the image was projected upside down.

The refracting telescope is one of many different types of telescope. Refracting telescopes work by refracting the light through an initial convex lens, (known as the objective lens), then through another convex lens (known as the eyepiece lens). These two lenses focus the light into the eyepiece so we can see the image clearly.
Digital camera is a very important tool nowadays. People would always want to save their memories in the shape of pictures that will last forever.
