What is the nature of a true friend? How do you determine what kind of friendship you have? According to Judith Viorst’s “Friends, Good Friends—and Such Good Friends,” there are at least three categories of friendships based on levels of intimacy.
The friendship that requires the least amount of interaction is the Cross-generational friends. These friends are usually 10 or more years older than you, maybe a friend of your parents or an old teacher from your days in school; they slowly but surely worm their way into your heart. Cross-generational friends offer support and wisdom; they are there for you when you need advice and they listen carefully to what you have to say. Eventually, most cross-generational friends become like a 2nd parent or mentor to you. For example, my mother has a friend named Deirdre. I call her Ms. Dee, She picks on me a lot but I always know she’s got my best interest at heart. At times when I feel like I can’t ask my mother for advice because I’m afraid she’ll take it the wrong way and overreact, I trust Ms. Dee to listen and hopefully be able to help me out. In a way, she’s like a God-mother to me and sadly I speak to her more often than I speak to my own mother. Ms. Dee is always there for help and advice even when she’s supposed to be getting sleep so she can get up for work the next morning. She’s a great cross-generational friend.
A friendship that is a bit more intense are the men who are friends. This friendship between men and women often leads to a serious relationship. This type of friendship leads people to question whether or not men and women can be just friends without being sexually attracted to each other. Men who are friends sometimes show some of the greatest care for you. They are your ...

She’s seen me through my ups and downs, my heartbreaks and sad days. She isn’t afraid to tell me the truth even when I don’t want to hear it. She is one of the extremely few who can pick on me and get away with it.
Friends are the people who you let by your side, who show the upmost care and support for you. Yes, I agree that there are indeed levels of friendship and clearly the truly best friends are the ones you trust not to stab at you while you back is turned. Many people over look and take friendships for granted, but you never know how one single person can affect you until you give it a try. Friends are important and essential to life, everyone needs at least one good friend.
From the bedtime stories parents read to their children when they are going to bed, to the books students ready in high school, or the books adults ready have one most common element friendship. The history in the American literature three were many books, essays and songs about great friendships some are still famous and some are lost, in the era where people become friends by following each other on Instagram or sending request on Facebook. Mostly all persons on earth have a best friend and people say that it is hard to fine because a best friend should be some on whom you can always count on and that a person always count on you too. Sometimes having right person as your friends can help you but at the same time if you are in companionship of a bad person it can hurt you too. Who is the bad person and who is the good person is totally up to the person’s personal choice?
A friendship is a bond shared with another person, typically of common interests. A friend is honest, loyal, faithful, and trustworthy. It's someone you can share secrets, memories, fears, and dreams with. They stand by you despite arguments or disputes that might arise. Friendships can bring joy, as well as pain; friends want the best for each other, and sometimes sacrifices must be made. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck speaks of the advantages and pitfalls to a friendship.
There are different kinds of friendship, ones that bring about certain goods for each other such as men of business or of some type of exchange. There also exists a state of friendship where pleasure is given, that in this state what is being given are pleasurable things and that each loves what is being given and as such continuous until such qualities cease to come
These friendships are usually short lasting since their attitudes and feelings change at a quick pace. The perfect type of friendship is based on goodness, according to Aristotle. “Only the friendship of those who are good, and similar in their goodness is perfect” (Aristotle 263). In this type of friendship is based on similarities between the parties. They strive to do good for one another as well as to provide pleasure for each other. It is the longest and purest friendship of the three. “Those who desire the good of their friends for the friend’s sake that are most truly friends because each loves the other for what he is and not for any in accidental quality” (Aristotle 263). According to Aristotle, it is the rarest type of friendship, because a person has to able whiling to decade the time and intimacy that is needed to establish it, however by doing so, it makes the person vulnerable in which not many are whiling to do. One must also prove that they are worthy of the love and trust. Aristotle concludes that establishing such friendship will help a person chief the ultimate happiness and
I would define friendship as complete trust and love between two people. Many people believe that this kind of behavior is reciprocated between two individuals without any expectations. A friend is someone who also provides you with support and whom you can rely on to celebrate special moments with. A friend also comes with many great attributes; such as loyalty, honesty, compassion, trust, and morality. Today’s friend is viewed as someone who shares happiness, common values, history, and equality with another. For example, Aristotle and Cicero both wrote dialogues about friendship and its significance on mankind. Therefore, the key issues that will be discussed are: their views on the similarities of friendship, the differences between friends,
Philosophers have discuss and debate about friendship and the true meaning to be a friend to others Aristotle have given requirements as well as qualities a friend possession within different types of friendships. He debates that a good man does not need friends but the points he brings up proves that a good man can not live a pleasant life in solitary.
Webster defines friendship as the emotions or conduct of friends; the state of being friends. Growing up you realize that every relationship is tested throughout time and some make it through that time and others do not.
What is your definition of a true friend? Well, to me, a true friend is someone who understands you, accepts you for who you are, and is willing to do anything for you. While reading John Steinbeck’s classic, Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie maintain a true friendship despite all the ups and downs they encounter. After Lennie Small, a man as gigantic as a mammoth with a pea-sized brain is caught touching a girl’s dress in the town of Weed, he and his best friend, an average migrant worker, George Milton, travel a strenuous journey to the town of Soledad and start working on a ranch. The young men come to realize that they have a true, brotherly bond and nothing can separate them. Even though the book has its rough spots, Steinbeck portrays the true bond of friendship that even people as close as siblings have. Throughout the story, George
From a young age most people have gone through many relationships with other people who were not their family. Thus, we often acknowledge these relationships as friendships. But the word friend is too broad, so people categorize their friends to several types. In her book “Necessary Losses: The Lovers, Illusions, Dependencies and Impossible Expectations That All of Us Have to Give Up in Order to Grow”, Judith Viorst divided friendships to six types. Those are convenience friends, special Interest friends, historical friends, crossroad friends, cross-generation friends and close friends. In my life, I have been friend with many people since I was little. Although I have met all six kinds of friend of Viorst, convenience friends and close friends are two important kinds of friends in my life.
My personal definition of "friendship" is a feeling or emotion expressed in such a way that another feels wanted and important, a relationship between a person or persons where everyone has some companion to talk to when their in need of one. I would define friends as people whom you can have several types of relations with and feel several emotions for that person. Someone that one might go to in time of need. However, friendships differ between people. For example, the friendship that someone may have between them and their parents would be different than the friendship they might have with someone their age. There are many different friendships that people have. Friendships can exist between best friends, friends, lovers, children, parents, siblings, and many more. All of these differ in some way.
In life we come across many people. Some will hate us while others will adore us. The ones who hate us can be referred to as enemies and the ones who show us adoration are referred to as friends. There are three types of friends. They are the aquaintinces we make in school, the friends we loose as one grows, and best friends who may stray, but never too far away.
On a conscious level, we rarely spend much time actually thinking about and classifying our friends. However, since I was a small child, my mother taught me to recognize and appreciate various types of friends. I have discovered that there are three different types of friends. I group them according to how well I know them and how well they know me. We encounter each type of friend everyday, whether in school, home, or at the gym. First, there are the "pest friends"- general acquaintances. Next, there are "guest friends"- social partners. Lastly, we have "best friends"- our true friends.
There is no real definition of friendship, because there’s no one way you can define it. Friendships can mean many different things, depending on the person. Friendship to you may be your boyfriend or your mom. To someone else it may be their cousin or someone they met on at school. It can take you a long time to consider someone your friend. Maybe you have to get to know them before you become their friend. Some people have had very bad experiences with friendships and may be scared to become friends with someone to fast. So it may take some time for some people to make friends. Maybe you can become friends with someone a couple of day after ya’ll meet. You may be one of the people who have never had any problems with friends, so you trust people more. Are maybe your someone who’s scared of being alone so you need friends there to help you cope with your fear.
A good friend may not have all these traits. If someone is a gossip, you shouldn't get too close with him or her. If they are known for betrayal and being dishonest you should think about it and probably take one step away from them. According to the site “Being Friends,” friends should listen to each other, not put each other down to hurt one another, understand each others feelings, disagree without hurting each other, and be dependable and trustworthy. When finding friends you should look out for the good and the bad. See which traits are most important to you and make sure your friends have more good than bad traits. This will create compatible friends for you who hopefully remain with you for a lifetime!
Friendship is the most wonderful relationship that anyone can have. Ideally a friend is a person who offers love and respect and will never leave or betray us. Friends can tell harsh truths when they must be told. There are four different types of friends: True friends, Convenient friends, Special interest friends, and historical friends. To have friendship is to have comfort. In times of crisis and depression, a friend is there to calm us and to help lift up our spirits.
