Johannes Gutenberg was born somewhere in 1395. He was famous and well known after his movable printer invention. Gutenberg was a goldsmith, printer and also a publisher; he introduced printing to German people.
Early Life:
Gutenberg was born in a German city called Mainz. His father was Friele zum Gensfleisch and his mother being Elsgen Wyrich was a second wife to his father. He was the youngest child to his parents and his father was believed to be a gold smith, but then he continued with cloth trade. Gutenberg was very likely taught to read, but the books from which he learned were hand written books and they were not printed. Those books were called as Manuscripts. While he was growing a new method of printing was introduced which was termed as “Block Printing”, far a better way of copying books by hand. This method of printing includes cutting down a block of wood that is of a page size which is going to be printed. Every word written on the page was cut down on the wood, which in short means carving the words on the wood. Now the wood has to be removed from the sides of every letter leaving it in projections or otherwise raised from the block surface. This block of wood is now inked; a paper is place upon that block and pressed which gives a print of words that were carved on the piece of wood. With this method of printing a printer can make many copies of books much faster than writing the by hand. However, it has also got disadvantages because making of such blocks takes long time and only a single page can be printed from a block.

Towards the end:
After his great contribution to the world he died in Mainz, Germany 1468[1]. It was considered as one of the most important invention of the history, unfortunately the inventor was never benefited neither received any honor for his idealistic piece of work when alive but died in poverty. He was buried in a Franciscan church, the church was demolished. Though Guttenberg sadly went away with no honors, the history recognizes him for holding this honor [1].

Books today are everywhere. We find them in many households, libraries and schools all around the globe. We find many different types of books; from stories to educational textbooks, we regard them today as sources of knowledge and amusement. But it wasn’t the case before 1455. That year, one of the greatest inventions in human history was revealed to the world; Gutenberg’s printing press. This press allowed printing in massive quantity, spreading books all around Europe and the rest of the world at a fast rate. The printing press had many positive consequences on society. At first, it standardized grammar and spelling, and then introduced the mass production of books. It finally inspired future printing technologies around the world.
As a boy Johannes worked and studied with his father and learnt lessons from books with his mother, with whom he would play ?four-hands? at the piano, ?just for fun.? There were never any doubts as to his becoming a musician. From early childhood he learn everything his father could teach him, read everything he could lay hands on, practiced with undeviating enthusiasm, and filled reams of paper with exercises and variations. The soul of the child went out in music. He played scales long before he knew the notes, and great was his joy when at the age of six he discovered the possibility of making a melody visible by placing black dots on lines at different intervals, inventing a system of notation of his own before he had been made acquainted with the method which the musical world had been using for some centuries.
Before the invention of the printing press, any writing done, whether it was a book, or drawing, or copies of the Bible had to be completed painstakingly by the hand. Every letter, every word, every sentence, had to be written down by hand. It took almost over an entire year to write a single book. In addition to the large amount of time spent, people often made mistakes delaying the publishing of the book. The effects of these scarce, handwritten copies were that education and learning was very limited. Desperate for fame and money, German Johannes Gutenberg changed all of that. In 1450, Gutenberg created the first ever printing press, built and improved existing printing methods. Soon, by the 1500’s printing shops were located everywhere in the major cities of Europe. The Gutenberg printer consisted of a base that was constructed out of wood that provided a stable platform for the printing process. This required pressing paper onto ink typed heads. A holder, which was also constructed of wood, was there to hold the paper in place for use to be pressed against the ink types. The paper was sandwiched between two frames and was placed on a wedge so that the paper could be easily removed and the ink types could be replaced. Once solid, letters were affixed on the top of rectangular stalks, which themselves were slotted into a rectangular container in order. Individual letters were made by pouring a lead-tin alloy into a copper mold. The paper was then placed on top of the rectangular container and pressed upon the inked type with a heavy screw clamp.
