Leonardo da Vinci's inventions and art have made him one of the most acclaimed intellectuals of his time. Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in the town of Vinci in the territory of Florence. He was the son of Messer Piero Frusino di Antonio da Vinci and Catarina. The event that started his career was probably his first painting. When he was young, he was asked to paint a painting onto a disc. He painted a picture of a medusa head breathing balls of fire. His father thought it was so terrifying that he sold it, bought a disc with a painting already on it with the money from the sold one, and gave it to the man. This is the first painting he ever made, and it definitely started his career. By age 15, Leonardo was a very good artist. His father enrolled him in a studio, and he became the apprentice to the artist known as Verrocchio. Verrocchio had studied under Donatello, and had become a very accomplished artist. Verrocchio had also served as the official sculptor for the Medici family. The first known painting by Leonardo... ... middle of paper ... ...so had a pouch that the diver could urinate in. This did not become well known until The Codex Atlanticus was made. It is a twelve-volume set of his drawings and notes, published after Leonardo died. To become known as The Renaissance man is a great privilege. It means (roughly) you have done many things, and know a lot. That definitely fits with Leonardo’s artistic abilities and creativity. With all of these accomplishments made, Leonardo has definitely become a “renaissance man”. From his fabulous paintings, to his astonishing inventions, he was a brilliant man. To discover how birds fly or to learn the anatomy of a person, his mind was bounding with ideas. To do all of these things must’ve been amazing, but struggling. So, in conclusion, Leonardo’s inventions and art have made him one of the most acclaimed intellectuals of his time.
