Leon and Snowball Comparison

George Orwell, writer of the book Animal Farm captures important aspects of the Russian Revolution and portrays them in a humorous and more understandable way. Each animal represents an important person or event that happened during this time. Snowball is a pig that lives on Mr. Jones farm who is enthralled at the idea of a Revolution and one of the main animals to help get it going. The inspiration for his character was from important revolutionist, Leon Trotsky. Snowball was modeled after him, showing most of his character trails and interest. Most of the people and events that look place throughout Trotsky’s life are also incorporated in Snowball’s life. Orwell’s imagination ran wild as he wrote this memorable story so that he might warn the people of Russia for what was to come. Snowball and Leon are the same in every way from what they believed to their personality.

August 28,1828, a soon to be important figure in the Russian Revolution was born. Lev Devid Bronshtein, also known as Leon Trotsky, lived in Tula Province, Russia as the youngest of four children on his family’s estate. When he was two, his mother died, so their father’s cousin, Tatyana Ergolky, took charge over the children. Then in 1837, tragedy again struck when Leon’s father died. The children were then handed off to their aunt, Alexandra Osten-Saken, who became their legal guardian. Yet when she died in 1840, they went to Pelageya Yushkov, another one of their father’s sisters. There they were given German and French tutors and though Trotsky was not very good student, he excelled at games. Kazan University was the first real school he went to in 1843 as he planed on having a diplomatic career, but left in 1847 with no degree. Determined, Trotsky return...

... it fun and interesting. He did an amazing job matching each character up and making sure they fit in almost ever way. For Snowball and Leon Trotsky he made sure that even the smallest detail was the same. George Orwell truly made the Revolution come alive as well as pointed out how much power can destroy people. Above all Orwell will go down in history for writing an amazing and extremely accurate piece of literature.
