The 1920s was a time of happiness, fun, hope, and excitement. This was a time where people thought absolutely anything could happen. New inventions like the automobile and the radio were just coming out. And everyone was dancing merrily to the new form of music, called jazz. However, that was not the only form of entertainment during the Roaring Twenties, there was also, animation. Walt Disney was just one of the many legends that contributed too many people’s happiness through his entertainment. Disney’s creative work and unique artistic ability led to many smiles, laughter, and entertainment in the 1920s.
Disney grew up in Marceline, Missouri and had a very early start on animation and art. For example, when he was young he found nature, wildlife, his family, and his community interesting, which all appeared later on in his cartoons. Not only that but, when he was a child he would often sell his paintings to his neighbors to make extra money. He also, pursued his dream by studying art at McKinley High School and at a local museum. However, it did not last long because by the age of 17, Disney had dropped out of school to serve in World War l. However, he was rejected because he was too young to serve, so he decided to join the Red Cross instead. He then became an ambulance driver which was covered with Disney cartoons instead of the normal Red Cross logo. When he returned he had not abandoned animation but made primitive animated advertising cartoons. Later on, he went further with his art career and went to Hollywood with only $20.00, a suitcase, and his supportive brother and partner, Roy Disney. ...the world. His accomplishments like Mickey Mouse and Disneyland were one of the many things that make him one of the most remembered and successful animators in history. His movies with sound and dedication are what made him who is today and what he was when he was alive. As Disney once said, “keep moving forward” [6]. This means that if you get stuck or confused in some point in your life, there is no point to stop. Disney was a brilliant artist with a unique talent, will still be remembered for years to come, and has led to much excitement in the Roaring Twenties, and today.

The 1920s were known as the Era of Mass Popular Culture. People were extremely social and loved to be entertained in large social groups. These social groups allowed people with the same interests to spend time together and enjoy themselves. Sports brought people together more than all other events. The people of the 1920s were entertained by sports that were also played by Negros and women.
In high school, Disney took photography and drawing classes and at night he went to classes at The Chicago Art Institute. Disney quit high school when he was 16, joining the Red Cross and going to France to drive an ambulance. He stayed in France for a year and when he returned to the United States his brother, Roy, got him a job at an art studio. He left the art studio for a job at the Kansas City Film Ad Company where he learned to use cutout animation to make commercials. The name Disney is known to everyone, old and young. Walter Elias Disney is the reason for that. He is a very influential person to american history, for he is the person that transformed animation and they way we watch television now. He was a person who had a deep passion for animations and cartoons. That 's not all he was, Disney had an interesting life story just like the rest of us, he had critics and many obstacles, but he overcame them and was able to place a huge impact on America.
Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois. He was one of five children, four boys and one girl, born to Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney. His father was of Irish-Canadian descent and his mother was of German descent. Although he was born in Hermosa, he lived most of his childhood in Marceline, Missouri. When he was seven, instead of doing schoolwork like he was supposed to, he sold sketches. Most of these sketches were pictures of animals and nature. At one time, his sister helped him paint the side of the barn with tar. As he was growing up, he fell in love with trains. At night, he would lie in bed and listen to the trains go by, for he lived near a train track. This is the reason for the trains that go around Walt Disney Land and Walt Disney World.
With a name like Walt Disney, it seems like you are expected to do great things and have your name known across America. From a young age, Walt Disney had an interest in all things animation. Growing up in a time where animation and TV was making its first appearances, Walt Disney wanted to be a part of the sensation. Striving and pushing forward with his natural talent of the creative arts and entertainment, Mr. Walt Disney became one of the most well-known entertainers that is mentioned all around the world. His great animation and artistic works but also with his world famous characters and popular theme parks, the first one, Disneyland, being built in Anaheim, California in 1955.
Walt Disney is an idol to many people, including myself. I believe his self-confidence and dedication are great examples for any child to follow. Disney’s successes, and failures, inspire many people who strive to achieve something as great as Disney was able to. The theme parks he created are magical places, and the movies he produced are classics. While Walt Disney may be gone now, he most certainly still deserves a round of applause.

In 1910, the Disney family moved to Kansas City. Walt helped his father’s newspaper distribution business by delivering newspapers. “Walt attended Benton School, and occasionally surprised his teachers with his talent for drawing and acting. (Disney A to Z, 143)” The family moved back to Chicago where Disney would attend McKinley High School for one year. During this time, he worked on the school newspaper doing drawing and photography. 1906, the Disney family moved to Marceline, Missouri, and began living a small town life. While Walt was in Missouri, he attended Park Elementary School. Living a small town life in Missouri made a huge impact on Walt’s life. Roughly five years later, in 1911, the Disneys moved back to Illinois. But they did not go back to Chicago, instead they moved to Kansas City. In Kansas, Walt and his older brother Roy helped their dad deliver newspapers at 3:30 every morning in addition to going to Benton Grammar School. Walt also attended the Kansas City Art Institute every Saturday morning. After graduating from the Benton Grammar School, he moved back to Chicago and began attending McKinley High School in 1917 and started drawing for the student paper. Within a year of attending McKinley High, Walt dropped out and enlisted in the military, but because of his young age, they declined him. Walt Disney was the most creative an innovative person in the entertainment business in the 20th century. His movies and animations had a huge impact on family life and the movie and animation industry. He also created shows for television and opened Disney Land which were both huge successes. Without his contributions to the movie and animation industry, movies and cartoons would not be where they were today. The creation of Disneyland and Walt Disney World also brought families together by creating a family oriented place for everyone to enjoy together. Walt Disney had a huge impact on life as we know it today. He was an inspiration to others because he had big dreams that some people wouldn't even imagine, and he made them a reality.
