The united states needs a change and that change should be the legalization of marijuana. In doing so it could save our country in many ways. It could lower crime rates. from people selling it or for people getting in trouble for possession of marijuana. It is also one the the drugs that is less dangerous for the public than other drugs that are not legalized. Marijuana should be legalized in the rest of the states because it would reduce crime rates, generate revenue by the taxation of the substance, and its less dangerous of a drug then some of the depressants out there.
Legalizing marijuana could bring down crime rates from each state. Instead of having to go to risky places to buy marijuana when you can just go to a local dispensary. According to Toke of the Town “ the rate of crime would go down cause they would be selling it in stores and would not have to go to the black market to get it and other crimes to buy it” ( Toke Of The Town). In “ Colorado crime rates went down 14.6 % since the legalization of marijuana” (Natural Society). It would also reduce crime by not arresting people for possession or intent to sell. Not only would it lower down criminal rates but it would also save tax-payer money.
The state that legalizes it would get all the money from the tax from selling medical marijuana in dispensaries. Selling pot to the public would be a gold mine for the states cause of all the revenue generated from the tariff of selling marijuana in stores. As CNNMoney said “ Colorado made $184m in marijuana taxes” (CNNMoney). The government would not have to waste money to stop people from selling hemp. Harvard Economist Jeffrey Miron claimed “ If the government legalized marijuana it would save $ 7.7 billion annually b...

If marijuana was legalized in all states this would significantly decrease government spending on trying to prevent a drug that is very easily accessible. “Harvard Economist Jeffrey Miron, estimates that state and federal governments spend an excess of $20 billion per year fighting this little green plant… to add insult to injury, these efforts continue to fail as cannabis is more available than ever before.” (Gov. Reg.) This would save taxpayer money which could be used for other public works
Marijuana will be taxed just like alcohol in the United States if legalized . Rules and regulations will be issued by those states to make prevention of drugged driving. There will be laws and regulations to buy marijuana in general . United States history has involved marijuana since our first president . If this were to be the marijuana act would be lifted and the law would no longer be in effect same rules and regulations as california , colorado or washington. Cancer patients would be one of the greatest profiters from the legalization and the revenue from taxing it will come. Colorado’s revenue made 316 million off of medical purposes and 318 million in recreational use. With tax revenue like that we would be able to provide better education and projects for for school systems as I have mentioned previously(Colorado 's Legal Weed). Crime rate as went down in most of the places that have legalized it as well for petty crimes such as small amounts of marijuana and petty theft. The outlook on marijuana is totally different from now and when Ronald Reagan said that marijuana is one of the most dangerous drugs in the world.Marijuana was served for the different purposes then and now by the people. Back then they were smoking and mixing other drugs in with the marijuana which is the reason for legal marijuana. If be have a designated area to purchase their marijuana
Ever since marijuana’s introduction to the United States of America in 1611, controversy of the use and legalization of the claimed-to-be Schedule I drug spread around the nation. While few selective states currently allow marijuana’s production and distribution, the remaining states still skepticize the harmlessness and usefulness of this particular drug; therefore, it remains illegal in the majority of the nation. The government officials and citizens of the opposing states believe the drug creates a threat to citizens due to its “overly-harmful” effects mentally and physically and offers no alternate purposes but creating troublesome addicts hazardous to society; however, they are rather misinformed about marijuana’s abilities. While marijuana has a small amount of negligible effects to its users, the herbal drug more importantly has remarkable health benefits, and legalizing one of the oldest and most commonly known drugs would redirect America’s future with the advantages outweighing the disadvantages.
Marijuana is the cause of much commotion and debating, as the question of legalization becomes more of an issue. Drugs are a major influential force in countries all over the world today. Legalization is an option that has not had a chance, but really should be given one. Although many people feel that legalizing marijuana would increase the amount of drug use, legalization would benefit for the following reasons: 1)reduction of money spent on law enforcement 2)increase in the countries revenue 3)lessen crime 4)useful in treating certain medical conditions.
In the last fiscal year alone, marijuana brought 70 million dollars in tax revenue in the state of Colorado. Colorado was the first state to legalize marijuana recreationally in the fall of 2012, and since then three other states and the District of Columbia have legalized the plant. Based off of sales in states that have legalized marijuana recreationally, if all fifty states legalized marijuana, they would bring in a combined 3 billion dollars in tax revenue yearly. That much money from sales of the plant alone could help to stabilize the suffering economy. Moreover, the American Government would be able to control the plant and distribute it how ever they see fit. The economic growth marijuana legalization could bring to the United States outweighs any argument against
Specialized government funded programs such as Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) cost around $7 billion and are in danger of being defunded to save money (Whitehouse). Marijuana tax revenues exceed $6 billion and would help less fortunate women in need of assistance when they are raising a child. On the state level Alabama has a projected profit of $8.9 million in tax revenues alone from Marijuana sales (Miron). States could increase pay or set up a better retirement for police, firemen, teachers, or any other underpaid public service. Also, the medical sales of marijuana would create an alternative source of natural medicine that has less harmful side-effects than some prescription medicines. Another more practical use for the cannabis plant itself is “hemp”. Hemp is another variety of cannabis that is used for mainly for its fiber, oil, and seeds. The fiber can be used to make anything from clothes to cars as...
Legalization of marijuana has become an increasingly popular topic for debate in society with “sentiment in favor of legalization [increasing] by 20 [percentage] points in just over a decade,” bringing support for legalization to 52% (Dionne and Galston). The most common arguments for reforming current legislation are the following: enforcement wastes public resources, taxation can provide a new source of revenue, and enforcement of current laws is discriminatory (Dionne and Galston). It is necessary to look at the impact on the primary stakeholders by analyzing the various harms and benefits through application of the ethical theories of utilitarianism and deontology, in order to determine the solution that will result in the best possible outcome.
Legalizing marijuana will let the terminally ill and very sick people get what they need to help them without the trouble. It will also decrease the number of arguments and legal battles to legalize or to not legalize the substance. Marijuana is from a natural plant that is not meant to harm or affect people in anyway. The government and anyone against legalizing marijuana need to realize that there are things far more worse than marijuana. Make it legal and stop the drug war!

I believe that marijuana should be legalized. Currently marijuana is legal, for both medicinal and recreational use in 24 states and The District of Columbia; with that, I don’t see why it can’t be legalized in all 50. Marijuana has more than 50 different uses, the main one being for medicinal purposes. I weed were to become legal, it would clear out a lot of space in our prisons. Which would help us to rebuild our economy. Also, it would fuel economic growth by creating a new income for the United States. People argue that marijuana is a gateway drug, meaning that it leads users to stronger, more dangerous drugs, but studies prove that assertion to be false. In conclusion, I believe that best thing for America is to legalize marijuana.
First of all, marijuana can have many positive effects on crime. Legalizing marijuana can actually decrease crime rates in the U.S. This past year, it was counted that 6.9 million people are inside the United States’ jails and prisons. 60,000 of these individuals were there for marijuana, according to one study. With the legalization of marijuana, it would cut the amount of taxes we pay for these jails and prisons, costing us a total of $1.2 billion.
