Learning is clearly more than just study skills. It is a multi-faceted process, involving each individual learner. The current learning environment, and the interaction between these. We can also learn acquiring new, or modifying and reinforcing, existing knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences and may involve synthesizing different types of information. We can say that learning has taken place when we both understand something and can explain, teach or demonstrate it to other.
A new study says taking practice tests and engaging in distributed practice are the best way for learning. The methods that were least effective when it came to getting a good grade on the big test were: summarization, highlighting, keyword mnemonics, creating imagery for text and re-reading.

While everyone slacks on sleep from time to time, regular sleep loss can result in persistent feelings of fatigue and increase your risk of developing serious health problems such as depression, anxiety and obesity. Everyone's sleep needs are different, but you should try to get at least seven or eight hours of sleep each night.

The educator is giving the student a tool so he or she can break down the process of his or her errors. Once a child can acknowledge the concepts they truly do not understand, then an educator assist the student with the correct methods. If the error involves simple calculation, then students can learn better habits as to take their time or be more cautious. They can also incorporate better lifestyle behaviors before taking a test such as, retiring to bed earlier the night before or eating a hearty breakfast in the morning. These types of assessment practices and customs can build positive self-confidence in children who in turn will succeed. On the contrary, if they have negative premeditated thoughts of impending doom they will be sure to fail. It is known that a positive attitude in any situation is the greatest foundation for success. Now that I have returned to school with the ambition of becoming an educator, I am extremely pleased to witness some of the positive evolutions regarding assessments. A vast majority of professors use short and/or long answer test; however, this can be damaging too many of their students’ scores. There’s nothing worse than to have students sum up all their knowledge, skills, thoughts, talents, and abilities into one multiple-choice test with one “right” answer. This is why assessments must encompass more ways of evaluating students than a paper and pencil strategy that does not account for the various competences of every student. This is one of the many reasons why standardized testing has been undoubtedly one of the most controversial topics in education to date. With this being said, there are alternatives to standardized tests that involve different opportunities including portable portfolios, performance exams, exhibitions, and/or recorded sessions to better “test” a student’s knowledge and abilities.
Just how important is sleep when it comes to learning and remembering? In college, many students are overloaded with school work, whether is be due to their personal lives, activities outside of class, procrastination or poor time management skills, students often find themselves giving up sleep to spend time studying for their classes. Is this really such a good idea? During finals week, a period of great stress in college life, students will often times suffer from partial sleep or even complete sleep deprivation, while desperately cramming things into their heads that they hope to be able to remember the next day. A study performed on university business students in Hong Kong found that two thirds of 620 participating university students reported suffering sleep deprivation (Tsui, 2009). The hours of sleep reported by the participants were considerably lower during weekdays compared to on weekends (Tsui, 2009). Sleep deprivation and poor sleep quality are not at all uncommon in university students, especially those attending highly competitive schools.
Throughout Leading as a Way of Serving, there were many lessons that I experienced and learned. By completing reading assignments, writing papers, participating in class discussions, and attending the class retreat, there were many opportunities to learn course content as well as realizing new aspects about myself. At the beginning of the semester, I did not know that I would be learning so much and that I could retain so many new life lessons in such a short amount of time.
