Recommended: Strengths and weaknesses of learning styles

A learning style is a way in which a learner begins to concentrate on, process, and retain new and difficult information (Dunn & Dunn, 1987). A teacher cannot expect a student to listen to a story and answer a series of questions then expect them to make a perfect score when the student learns better by reading. Learning styles are simply deduced by how information is processed. Understand one’s individual learning style helps him or her by setting them up for success instead of setting them up for failure.

Every human being learns in a different and unusual way. There are not any two people in the world that learns the same way. Some people learn through working with their hands, some learn through what they see and can process and some learn through what they can hear. There is not a wrong or right way to learn because all living beings are unique and special. By knowing which learning style will help him or her do well in school, at work, and in daily life, a person will become more self-sufficient and will become a happier person.

Discovering a person’s learning style can be as easy or hard as he or she makes it. A person can go through a learning center to take a learning assessment or they can find the assessment online for free or at a price. If a person would like a more in-depth explanation of why they have a certain learning style or a more in-depth explanation of the learning style in it that person would be better off going to either a learning center or they could pay for a test online. There is some learning style assessments that offer what jobs would best suit you based solely on your learning style.
