CHAPTER ONE 1- INTRODUCTION: 1.1 Background of study-- UK Police Force UK police is one of the professional police force around the world and is known for their professionalism, dedication, performance and motivational commitment toward their duties and nation as a whole. Like any other force, it needs motivation to carry on its commitment level. On organizational level, there are a number of motivational factors and theories which are working to keep this motivational level at the top of the world, but there is another factor which provides a roadmap for the organization towards professional commitments. This is leadership. According to estimates there are about 52 police in the UK on the responsibilities and size varies. Most British police comes under the administration of the Home Ministry, but other Dollar, Scotland and Northern Ireland, England and wall strength together with intelligence network was different. Leadership is a quality to direct the people but what is more important than an ability to direct is to secure obedience from the audience about that direction. People are a crowd and to persuade and motivate them to go for something collectively is the task of leadership. A leader knits these people into a team and then guides how to act in unity. A leader motivates his team with his action, personality and charisma to follow and perform the task given whole heartedly. However, this role of leadership is too general and seems easy to perform. This task becomes more and more difficult when there is a need of persuasion to go for martyrdom. In uniformed services, be it arm forces, police, fire brigade or any other, the employees are not just like any other employee in civil set ups. This study will also identify the theories that will help answer these and other questions. In addition, this research will determine methods in which these theories can motivate the employees. 1.4.2 Objectives: Objectives of this study are defined as under: 1. Identify the secondary information which is related to the major factors that motivate an individual to work for an organization dedicated and in the best way. 2. To analyze the importance of the motivation for employees in UK police. 3. To develop an ideal model of motivation suitable for the police force. In order to achieve these objectives, literature review is discussed in detail in chapter 2, where secondary data related to this study is evaluated and the motivational theories are analyzed.
