Leadership Self Reflection

Leadership is found not just at work but all around us. In any situation, leaders take a step forward and take charge of the situation. It can be at home, at work or at any other place. Leaders are never born, they become leaders because they have the credibility and people would love to follow them.
This paper describes about my leadership strengths and areas for growth/future study. It also included how these qualities are used in my daily work routine, self-assessment results and a brief explanation on Individual style in leadership.
Introduction

It is all about where you want to be. Other qualities include Decision making, problem solving, time management, self-motivation, emotional intelligence and many more. Once we know the type of leadership, it is easy to find what leadership skills we have and which we need to develop which is explained in the book “Leadership: Theory, application, skill development (5th ed.) by Lussier and Achua.” Also, Keirsey Style Sorter personality type helps to knowing our temperament type, and work on our weakness and to emerge out as a good leader.
According to the Keirsey temperament sorter assessment, the temperament type that fits my personality is ESTJ (Extroversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judging) (Keirsey & Bates, 1984).

Summary

After the self-assessments from the book, now I know what kind of leader I can be, what are the weakness I need to work on and how I can influence my team and the people outside my work environment. This course has taught me many different type of leadership style and one cannot be an effective leader but just following one specific style. To be an effective leader you need to assess the situation and act according to the situations.

As noted by Watson (2004), the development of organizational leaders requires a culture that promotes self-evaluation, lifelong learning, and nurturing. The author discusses the importance of self-leadership which utilizes introspective investigation to discover and develop leadership skills....   [tags: my personal leadership qualities]

Essay on Canadian Indigenous Leadership - Indigenous leadership is a key element of the Canadian leadership landscape, and is virtually ignored in Wren’s discussion of modern views on leadership. In Part IV of The Leader’s Companion: Insights on Leadership Through the Ages, Wren guides the reader through a summary of modern leadership theory that mainly includes Euro-centric, Western ideologies. Save for a small section on cross-cultural theory (which summarizes a lack of research on the subject) Wren does not tend to address the globalization of academic theory....   [tags: Leadership]

Importance of Self-Assessment in Leadership Roles Essay examples - ... Often, emotional behavior is based on so-called VABEs, i.e. values, assumptions, beliefs and expectations that are developed early in life, but still underlie a constant evolution and adjustment due to daily experiences. Although one’s VABEs will intensely influence the behavior and response to specific situations and are thus essential in the development of emotional awareness and intelligence, leaders are often ignorant of their existence. Self-assessment can be regarded as a powerful tool to identify ones’ VABEs and consequently build the basis for better self-understanding and self-regulation of emotions....   [tags: leader, learn, pitfalls, process, evalution] 1064 words

Leadership Assessment Essay - Leadership Assessment In organizations aspiring for growth and continual improvement, relationships are more intricate and alternatives more numerous than the either/or imposition implied by the notion of leaders and followers. Practically no one leads all of the time. Leaders also work as followers; all in all, “everyone uses a portion of their day following and another portion leading” (Galie and Bopst, 2006, p. 11).
