Envision your style of leadership and what type of leadership styles do you have? How do you think you developed your leadership style? How often do you evaluate your leadership style? How do others perceive you as a leader and your leadership style? What has equipped you for the position you are in? What motivating skills do you possess?
This portion of the handbook deals with leaders as motivators so knowing your leadership style could help you to identify your abilities of being a good motivator. Managers are charged with the responsibilities of directing, supervising, and training in every aspect of the working environment. Whether your style is task related or relationship oriented, the task of motivating employees is the most important part of your job. First, let’s identify what most leadership styles are based on. They are based on a person’s views, values, past leadership experiences, learning abilities, and cultural environment. However, in order to achieve the goals of the organization and motivate the employees the leader must remember some key factors in motivating:
7.1 Motivating Approaches
Develop approaches to motivate your employees and communicate the task. Employees can see when you are passionate and when your passion comes across in explaining the assignment they will understand the purpose. Also, understanding the purpose will help connect each phase of the task. Establish and communicate to all that they are very important to the task they are assigned.

An effective leader must be able to incorporate positive change with their vision in addition guide employees efforts along with the company’s mission with inspiration. Without great leadership along with management the existence of followership, trust and success will not exist. Before any organization can achieve success, there must be an established effective leadership in place.
A person’s title within the organization does not make them a leader. The driving factor which determines if someone is in a leader position is their behavior. This person who is a leader will guide those in the organization by influencing, guiding, giving direction, and opinions (Marquis & Huston, 2012). The culture as well as the climate of an organization begins with the leadership (Azaare & Gross, 2011). Each individual person has their own leadership style. Knowing one’s own leadership style will help them understand themselves and be able to grow as a leader. The purpose of this paper is to look at my own leadership style, including my strengths for leading others. A description of a potential challenge that I foresee due to my leadership style and a plan for my personal leadership development will be discussed.
Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
To be a leader, you have to be authoritative, but not mean, and you have to keep a cool head, even in the hardest situations. You also have to be understanding, and

These qualities alone listed above are some of many important qualities that will allow a leader to inspire and guide a group of people towards goals successfully.
To perform well as a leader, the leader must identify individual strengths, weaknesses, and potential; acquire knowledge of leadership, power, influence, and authority to get the right things done at the right time.

Many Scholars characterize the core qualities and skills necessary for an effective leader. Useem defines leadership as “Creating a vision and translating that vision into actions”. Historically, an effective leader was assumed to be exceptionally knowledgeable, authoritative, and dominate. Those leaders applied the command and control method to lead an organization. With the passage of time, this definition has been changed. The modern definition of an effective leader is honest, courageous, trustworthy, inspirational, and result-oriented. Today’s leaders create shared values and vision, and empower others to achieve their targets.
Motivation is the force that transforms and uplifts people to be productive and perform in their jobs. Maximizing employee’s motivation is a necessary and vital to successfully accomplish the organization’s targets and objectives. However, this is a considerable challenge to any organizations managers, due to the complexity of motivation and the fact that, there is no ready made solution or an answer to what motivates people to work well (Mullins,2002).
It is important for manager to understand that what motivates the individuals. There are different kinds of motivation theories which reveal that individuals are motivated by different factors. For example there is extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation (Amabile, 1993). Extrinsic motivation refers to the motivation that one has for the extrinsic rewards such as pay, status, power, etc. Then there are intrinsic motivating factors such as the chance to exercise one’s skills, the opportunity to learn and personal development. Research suggests that various factors motivate employees in a different degree depending on their nature. It would therefore be important for the manager to understand that what are the motivating factors for individual employees and then provide them incentives accordingly so that they can work in a more productive fashion. Once the individuals work with greater excitement and vigour it would automatically lead to better performance.
