International students contribute greatly to the economy, some say the true benefit is impossible to measure but in 2008/09 the value was estimated at 4.3 billion pounds, an impressive 1.1% of the UK economy.

London is the largest higher education institution in the UK and in 2005/06 over 41,200 international students were enrolled there. London higher education derived a total of 560 million pounds, the vast majority of this, 450 million, was provided by international students. Such a high percentage would be sorely missed and without it the education system would be severely cut back. This would affect not only job opportunities within the sector itself but its suppliers and ability to grow and improve too. As well as causing losses now it would prevent much of the improvements which will be made in the way students are taught, damaging the quality of skill sets available in the future damaging the economy.
