On November 24th 1859 one of the most influential books ever written was published. I am of course referring to the Origin of Species. The origin of species was published by Charles Darwin, it outlined the theory of evolution and was immediately ridiculed by the religious community as it went against the story of creation in the bible and to this day it is not fully accepted as the truth of our existence. The book wasn’t published light heartedly, Darwin himself was as devout Christian as was his wife as such the publishing of the book was a big decision for him, he put in masses of work into collecting proof of evolution; he even undertook a 5 year ship journey around the world collecting evidence for his theory. Unlike creationism which is based on stories written long ago, and we know that over time things change and are exaggerated.
Creationism states that the earth and everything on it was created in seven days. Did you know that we believe there to be somewhere in the region of 8.7 million species on the planet, not including the countless bacteria and other such organisms. Eight million! Seven days? How can this even be considered a feasible explanation? A particular sect of creationism also puts the age of the earth under 10000 years ago. We know from several reliable methods of dating that the dinosaurs were around long before such a date. We can also tell from ice cores that there has been far more winter summer cycles than could be possible in 10000 years. In fact for the number of cycles in some samples we would need over 100 cycles a year for the earth to be as young as creationists say it is. This means that a full season cycle would take place in around half a week. Don’t you think we’d notice that? Creationists att...

... changing a species from one to another. A perfect example of this is our own evolutionary tree. We are part of the genus Homo, we are the last surviving species in this genus, over time our ancestral species developed characteristics such as a larger brain. The larger brain capacity wasn’t an instant thing; it slowly got larger over the species in the genus. Till it reached the size of our brains; so yes, it does make sense for one species to evolve into another one, just not in any small period of time.
Overall there is no real evidence for creationism whereas there is for evolution. As such we must accept the fact that evolution is the most developed and scientific explanation as to the origins of life, and that we may not have the best description of the process but as it has since Darwin’s time the theory will develop on the same base principle. Life changes.

Creationism vs. Evolution Essay - “Life has no meaning. Jesus gives our life meaning, we must accept him to give meaning to our life. It futile to ask about the meaning of life when you are the answer.” ― Rob Geis Creationism and the study of evolution has been a controversial debate for decades now, leaving many people on one side or the other. Creationism argues that faith should take precedent over science, basing its beliefs on one book for guidance, the Bible. God created the earth and everything on it, taking six days....   [tags: Science vs Creationism]

We came from Where? The Basis of Creationism Essay - Since the dawn of curiosity and exploration we have attributed all our advances to a supernatural entity christened “God.” As science moves forward, evidence suggest less the necessity for such a being; however, the religious still fight to keep The Bible within science. Obtruding their beliefs of a creation story as “True science” has confused many and halted science exploration, due to a false image of what science is. It is very apparent that some see creationism as a viable model of science but it does not meet the standard scientific requirements....   [tags: No room within science, lack of data]

Analysis of Alan Roger´s Evidence of Evolution Essay - Evolution has been a constantly debated topic with central importance in defining the origin of man. Creationism is still a common belief in modern society, somehow maintaining validity through assumed truth; this belief attained its popularity many years before the concept of evolution itself, yet is the main opponent of the theory of evolution. Alan Rogers, author of In Evidence for Evolution, provides thorough arguments against creationism, ranging from molecular to morphological data. He argues that many creationists use “arguments from personal incredulity,” meaning that a lack of a fathomable explanation to a question is proof of an answer....   [tags: creationism, research, culture, belief] 1803 words

Creationism in Public Schools Essay - Creationism in Public Schools Teaching Creationism in Schools The question as to whether or not creationism should be taught in public schools is a very emotional and complex question. It can be looked at from several different angles, its validity being one of them. Despite the lack of evidence to support the fundamentalist idea of creationism, that in itself is not enough to warrant its exclusion from the curriculum of public schools in the United States. The question is far more involved and complex....   [tags: Teaching Education] 1423 words

Creationism in Public School Science Class Essay - Should history teachers teach that the Holocaust happened and that it didn't happen. If not, then why should science teachers teach that life evolved over billions of years, and that it was created as it is now just six thousand years ago. Creationism should not be taught in science class because it has no supporting evidence, it is not equal to evolution, and religious myths can not be taught in public schools in an officially non religious nation. "...[I]ndividual scientists and philosophers of science have provided substantive critiques of "intelligent design," demonstrating significant conceptual flaws in its formulation, a lack of credible scientific evidence, and misrepresentati...   [tags: Scientific Research ]

Do Creationism and Intelligent Design Have a Place in the Classroom? President G. W. Bush commented as follow: Both sides ought to be taught properly...so people can understand what the debate is about....Part of education is to expose people to different schools of thoughts....You’re asking me whether or not people ought to be exposed to different ideas, and the answer is yes (Baker and Slevin, 2005)....   [tags: Persuasive, Theory of Evolution] 1286 words

Creationism for Kids on the Web Essay - Creationism for Kids on the Web How is it that this age old question of evolution versus creation can turn otherwise friends and colleagues against one another. Much of it has to do with the very fact that we are discussing the matter and how it relates to children. It seems that much of the controversy that is stirred up by this issue revolves around how children will perceive Darwinian “social teachings” or social Darwinism. Will studying evolution corrupt the morals of school-aged children. I began my research pondering the following: Can children that look at website-based material learn the latest material from both a scientific and biblical perspective....   [tags: Religious Issues Internet Science Essays]

Creationism and Public Schools Essay - Creationism and Public Schools The issue of whether creationism should be taught in public schools, rather than evolution, is a new one. It has only been in the past fifty years that it has even been in debate. Public school science classes, when discussing the origins of life on Earth, coincided with Sunday school classes. Students learned that the Earth, universe and everything else was created in seven days, by God, as stated in the Old Testament. It was not until recently with the rise of scientific reason and equal rights organizations did these teachings become questioned....   [tags: essays research papers fc]

Evolution vs. Creationism Essay - Evolution vs. Creationism The Evolution vs. Creationism controversy goes all the way back to the Publishing of Origin of Species in 1859 by Darwin laying the foundation for the evolution of life to be understood. Scientists are continuously finding more evidence to support Darwin’s conclusion; that organisms descended from a common ancestor modified by the mechanism of natural selection resulting in the evolution of species adapting to their environment. The following are the main geological topics concerning creationism: radiometric dating, transitional forms and the Cambrian explosion....   [tags: essays research papers] 929 words

In no way is faith, a factor that influences the ideas and theories supported by scientists.
