The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a story about Amir’s life and everything that happens. Amir’s father, Baba, is a very wealthy man and is well liked in the community. One of the pros of being wealthy in Kabul is having servants work for them. Baba’s servant in the book is Hassan. Amir and Hassan are always together until a tragedy strikes them both. This rips the family apart because they were all so close. Hassan and Amir always treated each other like brothers. Hassan would do anything for Amir. When Amir was getting picked on and Hassan would always step in and stick up for him. For example, Hassan says to Amir, “For you a thousand times again,” (Hosseini 67). This shows that, Hassan would do anything for Amir no matter how many times he asked him. Not only did Amir play with Hassan like a brother. Baba treated Hassan like a son but this made Amir jealous. “Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay, to win Baba” (Hosseini 77).
