According to www.bls.gov, “Employment of mechanical engineers is expected to grow about 9 percent from 2010 to 2020. This is slower than the average for jobs.” Also from 2010 mechanical engineers are making more than $37.00 an hour, which is more than $78,000 a year. To become licensed by your state to work as an engineer, you must have a degree from a qualified engineering platform. You also need a few years of work knowledge and must pass a test. Many people take the test at the same time they graduate or soon after. According to www.iseek.org, “Some bachelor's programs combine work understanding with classes, and may take five or six years to complete. This work experience teaches skills, helps build job contacts, and you may be paid while you work.”
Job
Mechanical engineers must be licensed of they are to do anything that affects peoples’ lives, property, or the environment. A bachelor’s degree is minimal for most companies. A master’s degree assures a better starting salary and opportunities for advancement. High school credits should have good grades in: math, physics, chemistry, biology, drafting, computer and mechanical courses. To become a mechanical engineer you should start at a high school level when you notice curiosity of how, any why things work.
Mechanical engineering and designing is in everything we use, in our jobs and everyday items used in our homes. We often don't think of the work that goes into the designing of large and small tools but we do know how much easier it makes our
Some education classes you have to take are algebra, geometry, arithmetics, calculus, statistics and last but not least are mechanical engineering. You will also need to graduate high school or get your GED and then start a job outlook. Some skills you have to have are time management, critical thinking, and active listening. Some abilities are near vision, arm to hand coordination, being steady, and finger dexterity.
According to dictionary.com,” Mechanical Engineering is the branch of engineering dealing with the design, construction, and use of machines.” Their job is to take an idea and actually make it happen. Doing this takes a lot of knowledge and skills. They first start off with an idea that they have. Then they try to make a small module of it. They do this so they know what the product will work without spending a lot of money on it. They have to find the right materials to do this. The materials have to be able to withstand a lot of things nature has to throw at it. Like rain, dust, lightening, and many more things. After they have to make sure the produce is safe. When all of this is done they build the real thing.
The company which employs knowledge of kinematics and dynamics of machinery, design for manufacture and assembly, internal combustion engines, principles of product design, structural health and integrity monitoring is more closely related to mechanical engineering than any other branch.
Attending summer camps and courses and interning at different engineering locations is ideal for maintaining a position at any workplace in this field (Bureau of Labor Statistics "Engineers"). Following college preparatory courses during high school and excelling in areas such as math and science are strongly recommended. During college, the lowest degree you need to work as an aerospace engineer is a bachelor's degree, however continued education into a master's or even a doctorate is recommended to successfully secure a spot in this field, especially to become a teacher or research analyst or developer (Career in Focus; Engineering page 8-9). Many workplaces also have co-op courses that can help finance further education in the field of choice and can also help guarantee a position with a specific company (Bureau of Labor Statistics "Engineers"). Be sure to look into the engineering courses at as many colleges as possible, ABET college courses are necessary for Aerospace engineering. Most states require postgraduate licensing to work as an aerospace engineering. The first exam that must be taken is the Engineer in Training certificate exam, which lasts up to ten years. The second and final exam is the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Completing this exam will give you the proper licensing to work as a professional engineer in the US (Career in Focus; Engineering page
Ever since I was little I have always been interested in how things work, and I have always thought about how I could build them work better. As an example, I lived in Japan for two years while I was in first and second grade. I went to a small public school and loved to ski with my friends, we probably went skiing at least once a week during the winter. When I was skiing I would always be fascinated by the ski lifts and spend a good deal of time staring at them to try and figure out how they worked. And eventually I did. That is just one example of my everyday life. I want to have a career in what I already love doing -- learning how machines work and making my own. The first time I went to Maker Faire in Kansas City was the day I decided for sure that I wanted to be a maker, and I haven’t missed a Maker Faire since. Maker Faire is an annual event that lasts a weekend and is held in various different cities around the world. It is a place for makers to show off their inventions and projects to thousands of spectators.
Engineering is a broad major, sectioned into several fields of study. The fields of engineering included Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Petroleum, etc. Although all branches of engineering require the same prerequisites, the program of study is further personalized subsequent to the first two semesters completed. Alongside the recommended program of study, an engineer major must possess a strong work ethic in order to keep up with the demanding courses. It also essential for students to immerse themselves in engineering community outside of the classrooms if they desire to succeed within the major.
Schools have been working on getting more students into the field with influential programs such as STEM. Mechanical engineering is ranked in the top 10 engineering majors. According to "Mechanical Engineer" from US News, engineering is one of the best jobs out there right now. “3 in Best Engineering Jobs, #12 in Best STEM Jobs, and #38 in the 100 Best Jobs “("Mechanical" US). According to “Mechanical Engineering Degrees &Amp; Careers”, “Mechanical engineers research, design, develop and test mechanical and thermal devices including tools, engines, and machines.” Mechanical engineering deals a lot with force, energy, and motion. Mechanical engineering is probably one of the most diverse majors out there. I can acquire a job in almost any industry with a major in this field. According to Columbia University, “engineers can find a career in just about any industry, including automotive, biotechnology, computers, construction, energy, electronics, robotics, aerospace and entertainment”. Therefore, mechanical engineering is probably one of the most diverse majors out there. Mechanical engineers have an abundant amount of job opportunities with a
Everyone wants to be something from a doctor to a stylist, I want to be a mechanical engineer. This is something I have always wanted to do in my life, the opportunities that exist in this field can lead to anything. Mechanical engineers are able to do many tasks in the job environment from designing, to developing, and also building. In addition, as new companies are starting up they will need mechanical engineers to help them develop their product. All of the engineering fields have great pay, that is able to support my family and also my parents. In the work environment of a mechanical engineer, they usually are around an office and sometimes where their product is being used at. To be able to apply for a mechanical engineering job you
At least a high school diploma or a GED are required for good mechanic positions. Training is required to acquire a higher positions. It is recommended to complete a vocational program because that way a person can earn more money and more jobs are going to be available for that person. The career itself is not very long compared to those in healthcare. Experience and training are very important. With new technology, use of computers on cars, for example, mechanics must be up to date with new models of cars, and they have to have more educated. A mechanic th...
My interest in pursuing mechanical engineering comes from my engineering teacher from griffin high school. I came in as a ninth grader, and I just chose to try it because I really did not know what I wanted to do. Mr. Burrell taught me many things. I feel like he prepared me the most by how much he challenged me and made me go through problem solving steps to figure out things that I did not know. Once I continued my knowledge through high school in engineering I figured out that mechanical engineering is the discipline that I felt like I was most interested in and that I was the most successful in. Webster specifically defines the discipline of Mechanical Engineering as, “the type of engineering tha...
But I did have an interest in materials. However, mechanical engineering is a very broad field. Mechanical engineering has an area of specialization referred to as “Materials and Manufacturing” [4] It doesn’t focus so heavily on material development and design so much as material selection and the methods of manufacturing parts using those materials. For example, “How do you mass produce carbon fiber parts?” would be a problem that a mechanical engineer of this specialization might set out to solve. At this point I had also had some exposure to electrical engineering, through a Snap Electronics kit and obtaining my Amateur Radio License. Mechanical engineers do take some electrical engineering classes. This gives mechanical engineers an understanding of electrical control systems and electric motors [5], both of which play important roles in machinery
Mechanical engineering is a type of engineering which applies principles of physics and material science for the purpose of analyzing, designing, manufacturing and maintaining of mechanical systems (Gorp, 2005). It is involved with the production and usage of mechanical power in the operation of various machines and tools. Mechanical engineering is considered to be the most diverse engineering and has its breadth derived from the need to design tools and manufacture products which range from small individual parts to large systems. Mechanical engineering, as thought of by scholars, is related to Aerospace engineering, Manufacturing and Mechanical engineering (Van et al, 2011).
Engineering is a good fit for me because it involves lots of math and problem solving which are two of my favorite things to do. Also I am good at working with my hands and with other people. Mechanical engineering requires a good understanding of math and science
