When trying to decide what I wanted to do my Multicultural Symposium Project on I thought about all the places I have always wanted to visit. Italy has always been a place I wanted to vacation to. Who wouldn’t? There is a lot of culture there from fashion to art and of course the food to name a few. Some of the most known name brands of clothing or handbags orientated from there. It is the wine country. Family and food are always important in the Italian culture.
I would first like to cover religion. Like most places there are a wide variety of different religions, but in the Italian culture most people are raised to be catholic. About 88% of Italians are catholic. The Roman Catholic Church is the largest and oldest Church in Italy. The catholic hierarchy is college of bishops and the Pope.
Artwork is well known in Italy. From early Renaissance to more modern times art has changed dramatically. The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and the David statue are some of the most recognized pieces of art. Paintings use to be dark in color with incorrect size proportion. In more modern Italian art more color is being used as well as better proportions images don’t appear to be standing still and have become more 3-D. I would say art in any form has become more realistic and people thought out side of the box.
When I think about Italy, food and wine come to mind. Many foods we love are part of the Italian culture, pizza, pasta, cheese, and some desserts. Wine is one of my favorites and there is plenty of it in Italy. Some people in Italy make a living from having wineries. These people have hundreds of acres of land full of grape vines. Most of the wine we drink in America comes from Italy. “Italy is also now the largest exporter of wine a...

In the traditional political history of Italy the people outside of the ruling class of the society were rarely studied. Only with the use of social history did the issues of class and gender begin to be debated by scholars. Numerous recent articles have done a great job of analysing particularly men of high status. In this paper I will look at the lower classes of Renaissance Florence. More specifically, I will center my focus on the lives of women during this era, how they were treated and viewed by people of other classes and how women were viewed and treated by men.
The way an Italian family works is very simple, the women tend to the household duties and take care of the family, then the men are in charge and work to support the family. Everything that the women have to attend to includes cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children. Arriving early for holidays is crucial for Italians mainly because the women have to begin cooking but also because of all the different food that has to be cooked.

Italians are a group of people who share the same culture, country and speak the Italian as their first language. Italy is a native country to many Italians all around the world. Then, many Italians started migrating to different countries in 1876-1976. This beautiful country is in Southern Europe and include a similar boot shaped Peninsula. The borders of the Italians are France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia. Rome is the largest and the capital of Italy, and this city is known for many of its religious attractions. The majority of people live in Italy are Roman Catholics, but there are other people of religions live there too such as Hindus, Muslims, Buddhist, and Protestant Italians. Italians are described as a hard worker, self-sacrificing ready to work for a better future for themselves and their families and also educated thinkers. When the Italian migration began numerous people came to the U.S. and its neighboring country Canada. Today in Canada there are over 1.45 million Italians, including well-known artists and actors.
Life in Italy is much different than life in the United States. Italians live at a much slower pace, than American’s and they have a desire to enjoy life instead of rushing through it as many American lifestyles exhibit (Zimmermann, K. (2015). The extended family is very important in Italy, whereas in the United States, the focus tends to be on the nuclear family, which includes mom, dad, and children (Zimmermann, 2015). The differences in Italian culture and American culture are vast and varied, but with a few comparable components to demonstrate similarities.
Growing up in Italy, everyone was predominately white and of Italian ethnic background. They had the same religious, and cultural views as I did for the most part. As in any society of course there was poverty due to the high rates of unemployment. In Italy speech was a social boundary marker, although everyone spoke Italian there are different dialects. Your dialect was part of your social location it determined what part of Italy you came from or how educated you are. A more educated person was able to speak the pure Italian language without a dialect. Sicilians were discriminated against often times because their dialect differed, and they didn’t have the typical features of an Italian person. Sicilians were considered dark skinned as oppose to the fair skin Italians and were linked to being apart of the mafia. The Roman Catholic religion was the most common one practiced in Italy. However, where I currently live it is more diverse, there are people of different races, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds. Neighborhoods consist of long time city residents and immigrant newcomers who have developed an understanding of a new culture and being apart of a community. Where I live now I would say diversity is appreciated; people are able to have close relationships with one another despite their differences of class, race, relig...
The United States and Italy are different in many ways, but they are brought together by certain situations such as their citizens and becoming trading partners. Italy has a total population is about 61,482,297 people in the country, which is 24th in the world. The largest age group is 25-54 years which is 43.2% of the population. Likewise, in US about 5.9%, or 17,765,915 people, in America were born in Italy or have Italian heritage.
As for place, Italy’s climate is Mediterranean for the most part. In the North it is cold and in the South it is hot and dry. It also has a huge variety of landforms like rivers or volcanoes. The Alps and Apennines are mountain ranges that form an arch-like barrier that protects the country from foreign threats in the north. The Apennines are sometimes called the
Over the past ten years, I have had the opportunity to travel extensively around the United States and Canada with my family so traveling abroad to Italy seemed like a natural adventure. I anticipated that my journey to Italy to be very similar to my previous experiences, with the addition of seeing some of the most beautiful landmarks and paintings in the world. When I arrived, I discovered an entirely different culture and attitude towards Americans. Conversation was difficult and I felt out-of-place. Italians were able to tell me apart even before I said a word. Anti-American graffiti were written on the stone walls of Rome which made me feel very unwelcomed.
Italy has a current population of 58,742,000 people in the twenty first century. The geography consists of a mountainous peninsula in southern Europe, which then extends all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. This includes the islands of Sicily, Sardinia, and numerous amounts of other smaller islands. The mountain range known as the Alps, forms Italy's border with France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia (National Geographic). The majority of Italy has a Mediterranean climate, which is typically defined as having cool, rainy winters and hot, dry summers.

There’s a lot more to being Italian than the typical stereotypes that we have come to know from movies, television and books. From the Catholic mobsters who kill during the week but always make it to mass on Sunday, to the “how you doin” views of Joey from the television show “Friends”, people often forget the more important parts of being Italian. It is a culture like no other, full of history, art, and most importantly, their passion for food. Italian food, in my opinion, is the best in the world. Italians put so much into everything they make that the time and effort is tasted with every single bite. One of my favorite dishes would have to be fettuccini alfredo and it just happens to be a fairly easy, but extremely delicious, dish to make. Trust me, if I can make it, you can make it.
Right next to food, family is the most important thing in Italian culture. My mother was born and raised in Naples, Italy and lived with her mother and three siblings after her father passed away when she was only six years old. My mother and my grandmother had a very close bond, the same bond my mother and I share now. My grandmother was a very hands on type of mom my mother tells me. Like most mothers, her children were her pride and joy. My mother’s most vivid memories of her childhood involve my grandmother teaching her how to make tiramisu and lasagna. Practices my mother has now passed onto me. Aside from the cooking lessons, my mother also taught me what it means to be a women. Being independent, never giving up, and working for what

There are many reasons why I would like to visit Italy. First of all, I am really interested in Italy’s ancient history and architectural heritage. Rome, the capital city of Italy is one of the most significant cities in history ruled by the famous Roman kings such as Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Vespasian and many more. I have heard and learnt the history of the Roman Empire since I was young and it made me want to visit Italy. I have also watched many Roman historic movies and it motivated my desire to visit the...
