A common goal for our society and everyone in it, has always been to treat and be treated equally and free from fears of violence. This can never happen if us, the men of our own society don’t stand up for violence against women, which is an incredible problem in our society. Even, famous women in our society have been victims to brutal violence between a man and the women herself. For example, Rihanna and Chris Brown, although they were in a relationship, that didn’t stop Chris Brown from getting into multiple altercations with Rihanna, which ended in Rihanna being broken physically and emotionally, even though this happened Rihanna would return to Chris. In the article, “When a Man Hit’s a Women”, the women writing the letter said, “You deserve--every man and woman deserves-- to be with someone you don’t have to fear, someone who will not abuse, someone who will not resolve quarrels with fists.” This should be a statement that every man and woman must read, old and young because this problem is not just a problem for adults. There needs to be a stand against this violence.I would like to point the finger today at what we call our modern, computer smart, and highly even "Havard-ly" educated America. Our beautiful "land of the FREE." Free of what? Defiantly not free of violent acts. Gruesome murders of innocent women take place daily, and it's sad that mostly they go unnoticed. One example of this is the murder of a young mother; 26 year old Gina Marie Lupson-Holden-Young and her young sons three year old Shaun Edward Lupson-Holden and seven month old Joshua Lee Lupson-Young whom were murdered by fire June 9, 2013 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. (1) Their trusted husband and father burned them all to death. This was the tragic conclusion of a doomed relationship with a history of domestic violence. What should have happened to the husband? To me, there is no question. He should die too. Why? It's simple to me. The law should be an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth (three in this case).

    In the past century, America has made great leaps in terms of equality. With the efforts made by the civil rights and suffrage movements, all people gained the right to vote. We are even moving forward with marriage equality, and currently fifteen states recognize same-sex marriage. But regardless of all of our progressive institutional movements forward, we continue to socially oppress women. Men’s violence against women has grown to be an internationally recognized epidemic, and will continue to grow unless measures be made to stop it. Domestic violence continues to be prevalent in the lives of many families, and is the primary cause of homelessness in half of cases for women in children. Many women have been forced to alter their behaviors out of fear of being sexually or physically assaulted. One out of every three women is sexually or physically abused in their lifetimes. The first thing that comes to mind is, there are a lot of people abusing women out there. Many people with opposing ideas may claim that men can be victims of violence perpetrated by women, but in instances not used for self-defense, it is rarely part of a systematic pattern of power and control through force or threat of force. In fact, 99% of rape is perpetrated by men, but when confronting men about the issue of violence against women, it is often combated with denial. Jackson Katz writes in his book, The Macho Paradox, “We take comfort in the idea of the aforementioned child-rapist murderer as a horrible aberration. A monster. We’re nothing like him.”(Katz 30).
