“Is technology tearing apart family life? Text messaging, social networking, and online video are changing the way parents and children see the world—and each other.” There are many technologies in today’s ‘smart’ world which are now being established not just as a want, but as a necessity of life. This allows families to talk to each other and have a fairly normal conversation with each other even though they may not be in the vicinity. Many people use instant text messaging services to talk to their parents, siblings, and relatives regularly because it keeps them updated on what is happening on a daily basis. While one is away from the family, they are still able to stay in touch with other family members without having to call each one of them separately. Web pages such as, Facebook, and blogs can also have positive impact on family life. Web pages allow family members to post pictures of themselves, allowing everyone in the family to go to the web page and view the pictures. The essay author’s sister has a web page that comments her state of being on a daily basis, and has pictures of her and friends. When there is lack of human contact between the family members, then Skype can be used to perform online face-to-face webcam chatting. The use of technologies also proved to be more efficient when each family member want to be updated on each others’ status, especially when they cannot come in contact every day. Without the use of technology, social networking system would not be possible, so the relatives or family members would not be able to interact with each as easily and efficiently. The extreme divorce cases caused by use of Facebook can be overcome by using the functions to their own advantage. The couple can update on their own status and feel that they are more in touch, which creates a stronger bond. The computer gamers who demise their relationship with their family members can endure the addiction that the games pose. When the computer games are used rightfully, it can be used as a stress quencher depending on the person’s dedication to overcome the addiction. The positive effects cannot be overcome because technologies cannot be made accordingly to what everyone in the family needs to build a stronger bond. However, the negative ones can be conquered and be used to their own advantage to build a better family life.
