In modern time’s today, most of society will follow whatever is the most recent movement. Many people like to be with the majority, very little people try to stand out and voice their own opinion about the topic. So like in real life, in the Scarlet Letter written, a novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne many people in the town of Salem find themselves to be with the majority of the town and kind put shame to Hester’s name. Although many of the younger women feel sorry for Hester, no one tries to stand up for her. Even though Hester is put through a lot of trouble for her sins she committed, society slowly changes for the better throughout the story for the better. In the beginning of the novel Hester is put on to the scaffold to publicly tell the town about her sins. As Hester is heading to stand on the scaffold, a group of older women talk poorly about her as they believe that she is almost bragging about her sin by saying “Did ever a women, before this brazen hussy, contrive such a way of showing it?”(Hawthorne 47) basically showing her anger at her for showing off the A in such a way.
