Inventions and Discoveries of the 1960’s
The 1960’s era was a time period notorious for its technology and innovation. This particular era of time was booming with creativity. People started to venture outside of the traditional mindset established by their elders, and the new generation made a great impact on the American lifestyle. The original models of these creations have been modified into complex designs, yet as we strive for perfection, we still use these revolutionary concepts. Like the 1960’s, modern society uses new novelties to help enhance our standard of living.
Early in the 1960’s, Theodore H. Maiman created an invention that seemed to demonstrate the impossible. At Hughes Research Laboratories, Maiman developed the first laser that emitted red light. From the use of ruby crystals, the laser emitted a red glow. Due to the laser’s low wavelength and three-level pumping scheme, the design was eventually altered and improved by scientists working at Bell Telephone Laboratories (“The Laser, the Story…Kids” 1). To construct a gas-discharge laser, they used neon and helium elements (Wright 976). As the years progressed, the internal design and pumping scheme of the laser was improved, and for the first time, people were actually able to see the light that the laser emitted (“The Laser, the Story…Kids” 1).
The new found discovery of the laser was put into good use, for scientists began to use the laser during the space race. The distance from the earth to objects in space can be measured

with lasers, so inventors used this technology to help them calculate the distance to the moon (Wright 977). This cutting-edge technology put the United States a step ahead in a competition; the United St...

All fields of science affects the lives of many people, but the inventors are left out. Inventors make many lives more comfortable and convenient. George Edward Alcorn, Jr. was a not so well-known inventor, but he...
The inventions in the 1800-1850s changed the way that American workers have live because it wasn’t easy for them to do certain things and, inventions was a big impact to everyone so Americans started to get things that were helpful to most people.
The first item that I wish to discuss is inventions. It is one thing to think of an invention, but creating it is a whole other story. Although challenging, it seemed like everyone in the 80’s was think...

The 1920s was a time of great advancement in technology and science in the United States and around the world. After World War I, the troops around the world were eager to return home and live in prosperity. Before there was prosperity, there was an economic boom; due to people making more money they began spending more. To help them achieve both happiness and prosperity, new technological developments and inventions came out to make their lives easier. Some of the many developments and inventions included the Model T Ford, radio, frozen food, traffic signal, Band-Aid, penicillin, and television. Since most of the people in the 1920s were making a good amount of money, they were all able to afford and get their hands on all the new inventions and technological developments. The three most significant technological developments that came out during the 1920s were the Model T Ford, radio and television because mostly every American family eventually owned one.
As the late 19th century progressed, technological ideas and inventions began to thrive. The notion that technology would impact life as we know it was an unbelievable idea to comprehend. People had no idea that something so simple such as the light bulb would become so vital to them and for century’s to come. Inventions such as, the typewriter, barbed wire, telephone, Kodak camera, and electric stove were created, however the major inventions created and use tremendously today are, Medicine, Electricity, and Transportation.
Have you ever wondered how the lifestyles of today’s society have changed compared what was done in the past? Essentially today our everyday activities, how we perform these activities as well as the tools we use are different from the way things have been done in the past For example, compared to the past, one of the biggest differences would be that today the use of the internet has increased drastically. Products such as books, magazines, and newspapers that were used as tangible objects can now be seen on the internet, through a computer, laptop, cell phone, or iPad/tablet. Times are changing. As time has moved on many companies have had to find ways to change with them as well. Some companies found a way to keep up, others are struggling, and some have even fallen off and went into
In 1886 Dorr D. Felt (1862 - 1930) invented the "comptometer". This was the first calculator where the operands are entered by just pressing keys. In 1889 in also invents the first printing desk calculator.
One of lesser-known benefits of exploring outer space is the medical breakthroughs scientists discover. It is true that space in a gold mine for much of the modern day health discoveries, yet many people don’t seem to have knowledge of this. A few major medical devices are, a laser angioplasty, an ultrasound skin damage assessment, a human tissue stimulator, and a cool suit. These are only some of the prominent discoveries made a group of intellectuals aboard the Internation Space Station (ISS). This band of people uses the unique aspects of outer space such as zero gravity to perform and uncover new information about medicine (Ferrell).
The first telephone was invented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell. Telephones have increased their capabilities since they were invented. Today’s phone are portable, digital, small, and can be used for emailing or texting. The first gasoline-powered American automobile was created in 1893. Automobiles gave people personal transportation and freedom. The incandescent light bulb, patented by Thomas Edison, is used to give homes, buildings, streets, cars, and a number of other things, light. Light bulbs were revolutionary because people could use them in the dark without having to light candles or an oil lamp. Technology has evolved since industrialization, but it has been providing freedom and convenience to people for many
Overall, the Astronomy conversation was a success. Sharing of information led to new ideas and a great discussion on the future of space travel. All participants learned something new about the future of space travel. Last, it was obvious that regardless of age, education, or professional background, people are interested and excited about the future of space travel.
The modern day space environment is no longer a mystery to humans. Yuri Gagarin of Russia was the first person to experience space adventure in 1961. Since then, technological advances have enabled space exploration, with new discoveries being made from time to time. Scientists have significantly contributed to the development of space tourism. Noteworthy inventions by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have transformed human life through increasing accessibility to space. The agency has made it possible for astronauts to go to the moon and also to walk around planet Mars with robotic automobiles. The invention of the tri-axis control design has had a significant influence on modern space explorations, helping astronauts to effectively focus their satellites on the target. This has been important in increasing efficiency and precision in astronomical discoveries (Birchard, 2003).
Only once in a lifetime will a new invention come about to touch every aspect of our lives. Such a device that changes the way we work, live, and play is a special one, indeed. A machine that has done all this and more now exists in nearly every business in the US and one out of every two households (Hall, 156). This incredible invention is the
